Netflix is featuring your favorite ex-hitman from Sakamoto Days, who is making a killing. Next year, they will turn the breakout manga Sakamoto Days, about a former assassin trying to live a quiet life, into an anime.
The Premise Of Sakamoto Days
Think John Wick, but swap Keanu for an even more badass leading man. Sakamoto Days follows legendary hitman Taro Sakamoto after he retires to run a mom-and-pop store with his fam. But his old associates from the murder biz just won’t let him be, forcing Sakamoto to pick up the pistols again to protect his loved ones.
The insanely popular premise has made the manga one of Shonen Jump’s biggest sellers over the past few years. The combo of intense action sequences and sitcom-esque family hijinks is simply a chef’s kiss.
Sakamoto Days A Potential Breakout Hit in Anime
Team Netflix announced the adaptation as part of its continued partnership with Jump’s publisher Shueisha, which has also yielded hits like the One Piece series. No word yet on which anime studio will bring Sakamoto’s story to life, but expectations are high.
The animated version lands on Netflix sometime in 2024, joining other high-profile gets for the year like Squid Game S2 and yet another season of reality trash Love Is Blind.
Netflix Casing In Big Bucks
Looking at the Big Picture – with its passionate fanbase and wild premise, Sakamoto Days has all the ingredients to be Netflix’s next big anime craze à la Cyberpunk or Edgerunners. The streamer is betting big that this unique blend of gunplay and family values will be a smash hit with viewers. Now, please excuse me while I go rewatch John Wick for the 100th time.
