Squid Game season 2 has the world in its grasp. The overly popular web series was released on December 26, 2024, on Netflix. However, unlike season 1, the new season had only seven episodes. Nonetheless, the games became tougher and were quite thrilling to watch. Fans are not yet over Hwang Dong-hyuk’s masterpiece. Here are seven anime for people who want the same rush they felt after watching Squid Game.
1. Darwin’s Game
Darwin’s Game is an anime that is sure to give the Squid Game lovers what they want. The anime was released in January 2020 and ran for 11 episodes. The story is about a mobile game called Darwin’s Game. The protagonist, Kaname Sudo, joins the game, which is a life-and-death situation. Sudo has to go through several perilous tasks, and victory is further than imagined. Each player is provided with a special ability, and it is up to them how they will use it and increase their chances of survival.
2. Alice in Borderland
Alice in Borderland is one of the greatest anime in the survival genre. It revolves around three boys who end up in an abandoned world resembling the original one. However, there is no person, and houses are covered in vegetation. In order to survive, they have to play certain games. If they fail to answer or give wrong answers, flaming arrows are shot towards them. Squid Game lovers will have a merry time watching this anime. Alice in Borderland has also been adapted into a live-action series.
3. GANTZ
GANTZ is another classic from the survival genre. After the death of the two main characters, they are summoned to an apartment with Tokyo, where there are other members. Through the GANTZ (a large sphere), they are provided weapons and certain tasks. With each task come points. Collecting 100 points will have something in a special store for them. People who watch Squid Game won’t be able to blink since it could lead them to miss crucial information.
4. Death Parade
Death Parade has an interesting plot, which belongs to the psychological thriller genre. The anime is about people who have died and are sent to mysterious bars. The bartenders of these bars act as judges and decide who will enter heaven and who will go to hell. However, there is a little twist. Each person has to compete in certain games called the Death Games. The competitors have to put their souls on the line.
5. Deadman Wonderland
Deadman Wonderland will provide the fans of Squid Game with a jolly time. The anime is about a boy named Ganta Igarashi, who is falsely accused of manslaughter and sentenced to the prison, Deadman Wonderland. Through several hardships, he discovers that he has the ability to control and manipulate his blood. As a result, he is used in gladiator-like battles with others of his kind. The anime is more than a decade old, however, when it comes to entertainment, it is second to none.
6. Fate/strange Fake
Fate/strange Fake’s plot revolves around mages who want to deal with the Holy Grail War. Even though it seemed to be an urban legend, its existence has been confirmed, which has sent the world into turmoil. Squid Game lovers would not be able to relate to the premise directly, but it is sure to keep them busy. It is fair to say that the plot involves all three words of the anime – fate, strange, and fake.
7. God of High School
God of High School belongs to the comedy, supernatural, and martial arts genre, which is not quite similar to Squid Game. However, if any person starts watching, they would find a certain resemblance to the web series. A teenage martial artist, Mori Jin, enters a martial arts competition called “The God of High School.” Unknown to him, the organizers belong to a shady company. The tournament engulfs all the high schools in Korea. Each individual or group is ready to over the other to achieve the ultimate prize.
