After My Hero Academia‘s conclusion in August 2024, fans were grief-stricken. To see their favorite protagonist return back to being an ordinary human did not settle down with many. While the manga concluded, the anime is still ongoing and is set to return with its final season in 2025. Amidst all the My Hero Academia news, fans got treated to a new prequel spin-off of Kohei Horikoshi’s magnum opus.
Studio Bones is in charge of the MHA spin-off series. With the anime scheduled to air later this year, TOHO Animation dropped the first teaser of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes on their official YouTube page.

Created by Betten Court, Hideyuki Furuhashi, and Kohei Horikoshi, the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime is adapted from the manga of the same name. It started serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ on September 20, 2016, and ended its run on May 28, 2022. The manga has been collected into 15 volumes (132 chapters) and the English translation is available on VIZ Media.

The trailer began with All Might using his Detroit Smash, and the protagonist, Koichi Haimawari, is seen fanboying over him. The art style reminds me of the original series, with a darker theme due to Knuckleduster’s presence and an improvement in the animation. The TV anime trailer did more than enough to give a preview of the story to the fans, especially how the protagonist joined the group of vigilantes under Knuckleduster.
What’s My Hero Academia: Vigilantes all about?
It happens five years before the original timeline of Kohei Horikoshi’s magnum opus. The plot revolves around Koichi Haimawari, a university student who works a part-time job as the receptionist of a departmental store. Like Deku, he is also an All Might fanboy, and his quirk is Slide and Glide. It helps him glide instead of walk or run.
One day, he and a street performer, Kazuho Haneyama, were attacked by a few thugs. Knuckleduster saved them from the disaster and offered them to join his vigilante group. Even though Koichi desired to be a hero, his chance had passed. So, he takes the offer and becomes an unlicensed hero or a vigilante.
When will My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Release?
The anime is scheduled to be released on Monday, April 7, 2025. TOKYO MX and BS Nippon Television will broadcast the anime at 23:00 JST.
