Look alive, entertainment fans! We’ve got piping hot tea on the latest promo for the upcoming anime flick The Colors Within by Naoko Yamada.
If you’ve been living under a rock, this one’s about a high schooler named Totsuko who can literally see people’s emotions as colors. Wild, right? Well, she meets this girl, Kimi, whose “color” is so vibrant that Totsuko is shocked. They start an indie band with their pal Rui, using music to explore all the feels.
Cast & Characters Of The Colors Within
The highly coveted roles had 1,600+ aspiring seiyuus (voice acting in Japanese) singing A Cappella. Here’s a brief rundown of the main trio bringing the colorful action:
- Totsuka (voiced by newcomer Suzukawa Sayu) is our protag searching for her own elusive “color”
- Eihei Rui (Kido Taisei) is a musically gifted island boy expected to be a doctor
- Kimiko (Takashi Akari) is a former student now AWOL, channeling her passion into songwriting
They form an indie band because why not? Nothing bonds people like shredding guitars and harmonizing about your feelings.
The stacked ensemble cast also includes Yasuko, Aoi Yลซki, and Minako Kotobuki as Totsuka’s contrasting roomies, plus Keiko Toda as Kimiko‘s oblivious grandma.
Creative Team
When it comes to the anime world, Naoko Yamada needs no introduction. The director behind cult classics like K-ON! and A Silent Voice is back, assembling an all-star creative squad for her newest emotional rollercoaster, Kimi no Iro.
We’re talking about a reunion with Vinland Saga writer Reiko Yoshida, who’s mastered the art of capturing the complexities of youth. Yamada and Yoshida are basically the anime equivalent of the Coen brothers at this point.
But that’s not allโthe film’s character designs are a tag-team effort between industry vets Takashi Kojima (animation director) and Daisuke Richard (original designs). If the trailer is any indication, their unique visual flair is gonna make this one pop off the screen.
Music
Now brace yourselves, because we haven’t even gotten to the biggest heavy-hitter yet! Kensuke Ushio is the genius composer behind transcendent scores for iconic shows like “Chainsaw Man” and “Japan Sinks: 2020.” His music is more than a backdropโit’s set to be one of the film’s lead characters, adding layers of soul and atmosphere.
Just imagine Ushio’s lush, contemplative melodies intertwining with the story’s themes around musicality and self-discovery. We’re getting misty-eyed just thinking about it.
