What is Sho Kusakabe’s ability in Fire Force?

Sho Kusakabe, the little brother of the Protagonist, is the Commander of the Knights of the Ashen Flame and a 4th Generation pyrokinetic. Sho was abducted as a baby by the white clad members, Charon and Haumea, as he was identified as the third pillar.

Just like his brother, Sho also carries the mysterious Adolla Burst and the Adolla Link. With the help of the Adolla link’s connection, the Evangelist blesses Sho with the special Fourth Generation powers known called Severed Universe, which can stop time.

Severed Universe: Sho’s ability explained

Sho first appears at the end of the Asakusa arc, where he decides to go after the fourth pillar, Shinra, himself. However, the first time Sho displays his ability, Severed Universe, in the Workshop arc, during his fight against his brother, Sho easily overpowers Shinra with the special ability, as both the viewers and the protagonist are kept in the dark about the nature of his powers.

During the Nether arc, when both the brothers fight again, it was Victor Licht, the Company 8th’s scientist, who deduced the nature of Sho’s ability. Sho’s Adolla burst ability, Severed Universe, can be used to steal the heat from the universe, which allows the universe to expand at the speed of light, resulting in nearly stopping time as well as slowing down the momentum of any object to zero for a short period of time.

Sho can freely move through this frozen world, unlike his enemies. He creates an illusion that he is moving at a very high speed, but actually, the environment slows down. During the fight, it can also be seen that when Sho stops his ability, the heated air particles around him evaporate the cold on his body to steam, which helps Licht learn about the ability.

Severed Universe sounds like an overpowered or broken ability, but this ability does come with a few weaknesses. If Sho’s stops or slows down time for a longer period of time, this will cause Sho’s to cool down to a level where he can freeze to death. The biggest weakness of the ability is that it is given by the Grace of the Evangelist, and without the Grace, Sho, a 4th Gen, will lose his powers.

During the fight in the Nether, Shira is also graced by a unique Adola burst ability where he transforms himself into subatomic particles, which can travel faster than the speed of light. Shinra’s ability could be considered as the kryptonite for Sho’s powers.

Sho Kusakabe’s other abilities in Fire Force

Despite his godly powers, Sho is great with a sword as he carries a long Katana, which he used to overwhelm Shinra. He was also able to take on Joker, who is a former assassin of the Church and has more fighting experience.

During Sho Kusakabe and Shinra’s fight, it was also seen that the former also possesses superhuman strength and speed. Without even activating his Adolla Burst, Sho, young and smaller than his brother, pummeled Shinra on both occasions without breaking a sweat.
