Junji Ito sits at the top when it comes to writing horror manga with psychological twists. Even though he has a cheerful personality, his works are different and often leave the readers frightened or traumatized. He revolutionized the horror genre with his creative and unique storytelling, making it one of the most popular genres. Due to the mangaka’s excellent horror creations, his works have been adapted into anime.
To date, there are two anime adaptations of his works: Junji Ito Collection, released in 2018, and Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre, released in 2023. While Uzumaki got a short anime adaptation in September 2024, fans can finally rejoice as Junji Ito Crimson has been announced to get an anime adaptation soon.

Junji Ito Crimson Anime Is In Works
It has been a couple of years since Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre was released on Netflix. It was released in the regular anime format, consisting of 20 stories created by the mangaka. However, after much waiting, fans learned that Junji Ito Crimson, which is a collection of his horror stories, will be released in the future. The announcement was made during the 2025 Japan Expo, which happened on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The event took place in Paris, and along with the announcement, they released a music video featuring several pictures from the collection of stories that will be featured in Junji Ito Crimson. The background song, Karasu Ageha, in the video was performed by Yumi Matsutouya, which will also be featured in her 40th Single Album, scheduled for release later in 2025. While the release date of Junji Ito Crimson is yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that the anime will be available to stream on Crunchyroll.
Junji Ito’s Comment on Crimson Anime
Currently, an anime titled โJunji Ito Crimsonโ based on my original story is in production. The title alone gives me goosebumps, and I can’t wait for it. I heard they’re adapting selections from both my old and new short story collections, especially those that make strong use of the blood-red color. I believe the singer Yumi Matsutoya, known as Yuming, is one of the greatest composers in the world, and she will be singing the opening theme song for this anime, โCrimson.โ It’s unbelievable, it feels like a dream. I first heard the demo where she was singing in a scat style, and that part alone was enough to call the song a masterpiece. It has such a rich emotional melody that you can’t forget once you’ve heard it. I’ve been filled with joy these days since Yuming’s beautiful new song keeps playing in my head endlessly.
The TV anime โJunji Ito Crimsonโ evokes an image of crimson red, which is what makes the series stand out. On top of that, having Yumi Matsutoya sing the opening theme song will make this anime very different and special from the other series โCollectionโ or โManiacโ. I’m sure fans can’t wait, but I hope everyone gets excited and looks forward to it!
