Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Episode 2 released on July 26, 2025, and featured the First Division in action. Since Kaiju No. 8โs revelation, several members of the Third Division have been assigned to other Divisions, with Kafka Hibino and Kikoru Shinomiya ending up in the First Division under Gen Narumi. The latest episode featured Kaiju No. 9 launching a large-scale assault on the city by sending hundreds of Ant-type Kaiju to the surface.
While Gen Narumi and Kikoru Shinomiya stood out from others with their flashy and effective attacks, Kakfka Hibino was barely able to do anything. On top of everything, it looked as if he had lost his ability to do a full transformation. It shocked many to see him in such a sorry state, but there is a serious issue underlying it.
Kafka Hibino Is Having A Mental Breakdown
There are multiple instances where Kafka Hibino has transformed into Kaiju No. 8 in mere seconds, but Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Episode 2 highlighted him failing at the transformation even after several tries. Each time he goes for a transformation, the shell breaks, leaving him in his human form. The reason behind his failure to transform is self-doubt, which has massively affected Kafka. In Kaiju No. 8 Season 1, he fought Isao Shinomiya, and when the latter was pressing him, Kafka lost control of his Kaiju form and gave Isao a devastating beatdown, leaving him bloodied.
The fear of losing control of Kaiju No. 8 and repeating something like that has got him all worried and tense. While there is an ongoing Kaiju attack, he is afraid that he might also hurt his friends and fail to live up to the Director Generalโs hopes. With so much on his mind, Kafka is unable to concentrate on becoming Kaiju No. 8, rendering him useless on the battlefield.

What Is Next For Kafka Hibino?
Kafka Hibino was seriously injured by Kaiju No. 9 in the latest episode. His struggle to find peace between his human and kaiju form has greatly affected him. He needs to find his motivation and develop confidence. Kafka always dreamed of becoming a hero, and now that he has a chance, his fear of losing control is holding him back. While it remains unknown what the future holds for him, the Anti-Kaiju Japan Defence Force needs him to gain the upper hand against the antagonist.
The current arc looks to feature a character growing narrative for the protagonist, and it will be exciting to see whether he lives up to everyoneโs hype or ends up being a disappointment like the latest episode.
