Ayaka Sajyou is one of the most unique yet tragic characters from Fate/strange Fake. While at first she may seem to be an ordinary young woman swept into Snowfield’s Fake Holy Grail War by accident, in reality, she has much more history with the Holy Grail. Ayaka is not just a normal human being; she is a rogue Master, who is the true master of Saber. In Fate/Stranger Fake, the character’s journey is not focused on winning the Grail War. It is focused more on maintaining humanity in a world filled with greed and inhumanity.
From Urban Legend “Little Red Riding Hood” to Ayaka Sajyou
Ayaka’s origins are rooted in one of the most disturbing ghost stories in Fate lore. Known as the “Little Red Riding Hood of Semina Apartments,” her legend begins with a family suicide and a missing child. In reality, that child was the El-Melloi Supreme Mystic Code, a fragment of an ancient magical being excavated from the Spiritual Tomb of Albion. Over centuries, it was divided, exploited, and eventually reassembled into a source of infinite magical energy. Instead of becoming a dragon heart as intended, it was reborn as a living girl.
Abused by rogue magi who treated her as a wish-granting tool, the child developed sentience, fear, and loneliness. When violence destroyed her so-called family, she fused with a human woman known only as “A,” creating the being now called Ayaka Sajyou. Ayaka’s existence is not symbolic. It is literal proof of what happens when magecraft plays god and then looks away.

Ayaka Sajyou’s Role in the Fake Holy Grail War
In Snowfield, Ayaka is deliberately chosen as an outsider to participate in the Fake Holy Grail War. She does not seek power, nor does she fully understand the rules forced upon her. Even still, the character is shown to possess an exceptional amount of magical energy, which is enough to sustain any servants, which is a feat not many elite magis can manage. Such a powerscale terrifies many around her, some even considering her a threat to humanity.
One of the main bonds that she has is to her servant Saber, alongside Richard the Lionheart, which is highlighted throughout the series, while most of the time we see her condemning herself as unworthy of being saved. But as the story goes on, Ayaka decides to stand up for herself, face her fears, and gain the energy to stand beside Saber rather than hiding behind him.

What makes Ayaka compelling is not her power, but her resistance. She resists becoming a tool, resists the Grail, and resists the idea that her existence must end in destruction. Fate/strange Fake uses Ayaka Sajyou to ask an uncomfortable question: if something was never meant to be human, but chooses humanity anyway, does that choice matter?
