Tite Kuboโs Bleach was formerly considered to be a part of the Big Three due to its popularity. The Thousand Year Blood War arc is a testament to all that Bleach does right. Unique characters with fully fleshed personalities and a nuanced power system that ensures, you guessed it, awesome fights!
Here are the best fights in Bleach TYBW – The Conflict
5. Ichigo vs Yhwach
Ichigo, facing Yhwach for the second time, had all of us at the edge of our seats. With the Quincy King at the cusp of attaining godhood by absorbing the Soul King, Bleach TYBW – The Conflict featured Ichigoโs seemingly redemptive moment. However, as the fight progresses, we learn about Ichigoโs Quincy powers, which prevent him from attacking Yhwach. Extremely important from the perspective of furthering the lore of Bleach, Ichigo vs. Yhwach also features characters such as Orihime, Chad, Ganju, and Yoruichi helping out in their ways.
FIGHT SCORE: 3/5

4. Uryu vs Renji
An anime-only fight in Bleach TYBW- The Conflict, Uryu facing Renji satisfied fans worldwide. With him having been bestowed with new powers by Yhwach and Renjiโs true zanpakuto, Sลล Zabimaru, being unveiled due to his training at the Soul Palace, the duel set up an interesting clash of new powers. Furthermore, it is one of the first fights after the Soul Reapers invaded what is now the realm of the Quincies- Wahrwelt. With stunning animation quality, we saw Renjiโs new Bankai in all its glory. However, Uryu uses his Vollstandig for the first time and defeats Renji.
FIGHT SCORE: 3.5/5

3. Yhwach vs Ichibe
Yhwach, facing Ichibe Hyosube, the Commander of Squad 0, ticked all the boxes that qualify it as a fight between two titans. Extremely overpowered abilities? Check! While Ichibeโs ability allowed him to manipulate names- assign names and hence their concomitant characteristics, Yhwachโs The Almighty allowed him to see all possible futures and negate the ones that are harmful to him. The action unfolded with the arrogant commander getting the upper hand, seemingly defeating the Quincy King. However, due to Yhwachโs shrift, Ichibeโs abilities were canceled, meaning that the shinigami would have no chance of victory, even with his release from Bankai. The result of the duel would decide the fate of the entire world. Unbelievably high stakes- check!
FIGHT SCORE: 4/5

2. Shunsui vs Lille Barro
Kyoraku Shunsuiโs clash with Lille Barro is an aesthetic treat. Katen Kyokotsu, the Head Commanderโs shikai, allows him to turn childrenโs games into reality. He plays the game of Daruma-san ga Korenda to incur some damage on Lillie, whose shrift is the X-Axis, which lets him successfully shoot any target. Additionally, he had the ability to save himself from death three consecutive times, after which he was able to unleash his Vollstandig.
With such a problematic foe to deal with, the head captain finally utilizes his four-part Bankai, Katen Kyokotsu Karamatsu Shinju, inspired by a theatrical performance. An aesthetic pleasure to watch, the head commanderโs abilities make short work of Lille Barro. However, Quincy can regenerate himself, which means that Shunsui is in trouble. A quick backstory reveals he possesses Nanaoโs Zanpakuto, which can reflect a god’s abilities and defeat it. He takes the help of his niece, and the duo finally defeats Lille. Like Mayuriโs duel, this fight was technical, flaunting both fighterโs abilities to the fullest.
FIGHT SCORE: 4.5/5

1. Mayuri Kurotsuchi vs Pernida Parnkgjas
Mayuri facing off against Pernida is a glaring example of Tite Kuboโs dynamic writing- a clash between two volatile personalities and powers. Mayuri depicted his scientistโs arrogance, treating Pernida as his test subject while the latter, being the Left Hand of the Soul King, looked down upon the soul reaper. The situation was already tense, to begin with, as Kenpachi Zaraki was blatantly ineffective against this opponent, meaning that the fight that was about to ensue was going to be very technical and detail-oriented, with both fighters having to utilize and display the nuances of their abilities to find a way out.
Pernidaโs shrift, The Compulsory, allowed him to adapt constantly, and his medium of attacking was nerves, which take control over the infected host. The 12th division captain is the perfect fit for such an opponent. His modified Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Makai Fukuin Shotai, allowed him to create an entity that was an exact counter to Pernida. However, the fight takes a twist as Pernida is able to survive Mayuriโs attack.
With it becoming a battle between intellects, Pernida displays remarkable growth and adaptability, cornering the arrogant Captain. It is only with the interference of his creation, Nemu, that he is finally able to defeat Pernida. Her sacrifice meant that Pernida absorbed a toxin that made him evolve endlessly without restraint. Ultimately, Mayuri used Quincyโs powers against him and defeated him. A treat for the eyes that satisfies that itch in the viewer’s mind of having a detailed, layered fight, Mayuri vs Pernida is, hands down, one of the best fights in the entire series.
