While some of them have magical prowess, others are there just for companionship. Due to their deep bond with their partners, they often put their lives in danger to save others. Nonetheless, these characters make the anime more interesting and entertaining to watch. Here is a list of the cutest anime companions and familiars that fans can’t get enough of, especially when it comes to their merchandise.

1. Pikachu

Pikachu is the most iconic anime companion ever. The yellow mouse and electric-type Pokémon, with round cheeks, large ears, and a zig-zag tail, have an adorable design. Pikachu defines loyalty and friendship, and is always ready to give everything for Ash, even when he can barely stand. Pikachu is also shown to have a mischievous side, with Ash getting electrocuted by him on multiple occasions. He can fly and loves napping. Being a Great Spirit, Puck has a contract with Emilia and loves her dearly. When his powers get depleted, he disappears. With a chibi stature, Puck is one of the most adorable anime familiars. However, his original form is scary as he takes the shape of a massive beast and can wreak havoc.

Happy is an exceed, which is a winged cat. His blue color and cute looks, with an energetic aura and cheeky smile, make him a great companion. 5. Luna and Artemis

• Partner: Usagi Tsukino

Two Sailor Guardians from Sailor Moon have a magical companion, with Luna being Usagi’s (Sailor Moon) and Artemis being Minako Aino’s (Sailor Venus) companion. While Luna is a black female magical talking cat with red eyes, Artemis is a male white cat with deep blue eyes. Both of them have a golden crescent moon mark on their foreheads. While both of them are cute, the magical feline duo are calm and composed, projecting a strict motherly behaviour towards the Sailor Guardians.

All of Usagi Tsukino’s abilities come from Luna, starting with the power to transform, Moon Stick, communicators, etc. Luna may be Sailor Moon’s guardian, but she is a coach to the entire battalion and has gone to extreme lengths to protect them, just like Artemis. My Neighbour Totoro saw Satsuki and her sister, Mei, coming into contact with the forest spirit after relocating to an old house. It is a small mouse-like creature with large eyes and no mouth. It is white and off-white with small feet and large ears. While experiencing everything with its eyes, Chibi-Totoro has curiosity in its stare, following an innocence and magic in its nature. Chibi-Totoro’s unforgettable nature has made him a worldwide anime mascot, with his merchandise available at every corner of the world.

For a long time, Misty carried a Pokémon egg until it hatched into a cute little Togepi. While Togepi’s head sticks out of the shell, its lower half is covered by the unique eggshell, with only its feet sticking out. It is a baby Pokémon and often makes adorable sounds. Togepi considers Misty to be its mother and shares a deep bond with her. Likewise, Misty almost always carried Togepi in her arms, even while they were travelling. Nami feeds him thunder clouds, that is generated from her Clima-Tact. It is not only a treat for Zeus, but also used to make him potent, as feeding them will charge him up, and he will be able to magnify the thunder’s effects, as it is a cloud. In his potent form, Zeus becomes a large black cloud with an evil smile. However, in its normal form, Zeus is quite adorable, and even though he loves Nami, he is also quite afraid of her.

It is common knowledge that Pembroke Welsh Corgis are one of the cutest dog breeds in the world. Shinichiro Watanabe used that breed in his generational anime, Cowboy Bebop. Ein, the pet dog of Edward, has a smiling face with his tongue sticking out, and during some occasions, his eyes are closed when he barks. While he appears to be the cutest character in the anime, he happens to be one of the most intelligent characters, too. Since he was genetically engineered by scientists, Ein can operate computers, play chess, and answer phones. The dog is quite fond of Edward and follows her everywhere. Even when she left the Bebop, Ein went with her.
