Ufotable Delivers Another Visually Breathtaking Masterpiece

Ufotable has been improving with each season, but now it has exceeded everyoneโ€™s expectations with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1. The fluid animation is more than enough to make non-anime watchers fall in love with Demon Slayer. The flawless cinematography, the subtle contrast changes, expressions, and even the sword clashes felt like they were out of the world. Ufotable captured every minute detail and redefined it in its own way, making it visually stunning right from the start. The tonal shifts also showcased the animation studioโ€™s excellence, with nothing feeling out of place.

Be it Doumaโ€™s Blood Demon Art or Tanjiroโ€™s Hinokami Kagura, the sharpness of the colors makes it more vibrant to the eyes. Blinking even for a fraction of a second will make fans regret missing Ufotableโ€™s world-class animation in that moment. When Tanjiro went into the Transparent World, Zenitsuโ€™s turning into a *God*, Kibutsuji Muzanโ€™s small cameo, etc., made it clear that it is not only the characters, but Ufotable has given equal important to the surrounding, making the 2 hours 35 minutes movie a spectacle to behold. In the words of Sound Hashira, Uzui Tengen, it was FLAMBOYANT.

Overflowing Emotions With Action Sequences

Demon Slayer is known to deliver top-notch action sequences, and people will go to the theaters with those expectations. However, they will experience something else more than action sequences. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 is an emotional rollercoaster, hitting right where it counts. The action sequences at most cover 30-35% of the movie, and the rest is filled with emotional backstories and conversations.

Speaking of emotions, the movie has highlighted every emotion with utmost perfection. Be it anger, sadness, or regret, nothing feels out of place. Manga Kyoharu Gotouge and director Haruo Sotozaki have beautifully sprinkled comedy in a few places so that the movie does not feel monotonous. No doubt, the battles were entertaining and will make everyone jump out of their seats, but the movie excels when it comes to the emotions.

Akazaโ€™s backstory will make everyone leave the theatre with teary eyes. Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado vs. Akaza was perfectly choreographed, but when Akazaโ€™s past was explored, it became the highlight of the movie. Every emotion will hit the audience like massive waves, making it impossible for them to stay neutral.

Perfect Use Of Background Score

Almost every sequence of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 has a background score. Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiinaโ€™s effort made a massive difference within the movie. They had created a background score for every emotion, be it rage, grief, fear, or joy. The music made the audience feel more connected to the movie and fully experienced everything to its core. During the battles, a fiery background score was put on, making the fans feel the same rush as the Demon Slayers who are up against the Demons.

On the other hand, the subtle piano notes during backstories or grievances will hit exactly where it feels. The sudden tonal shifts also felt natural with the background score. When Shinobu was injured by Douma, the fiery score changed into a tensed one, then with an emotional tone, it brought back an encouraging them, and then again the fiery tone as the Insect Hashira got up. Tanjiro, exclaiming, โ€œLike Muzan, he is trying to make his head a weakness no more,โ€ made the fans worried too, along with Giyu and Tomioka. These small details made the entire movie special.

Pacing Issues With Demon Slayer Infinity Castle?

The issue or complaint that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 has been facing is regarding its pacing. Many felt that the movie is slow and is trying to hide it with Ufotableโ€™s brilliant animation. Yes, the movie feels slow at times, and could have easily cut down 15-20 minutes, making it more aligned with the manga portion.

However, it should also be noted that it is a trilogy and there are still two movies left for it to release. So, the directors and the people behind the camera were careful with what they were showing. They did not want to show too much and spoil the next movie before its release. Also, the movie requires continuation, so it needs to add a few scenes from the last season to make it understandable.

Also, the backstories were crucial to explore the story to its core. It might be too much for some, but it does change the perception towards certain characters forming a connection with them. The action-sequences set the momentum and set the tone that it was going to be a lengthy night for the demons as well as the Demon Slayers. While the pacing might be an issue, it was also a crucial part of the movie setting itself for its sequel.

What To Look Forward To In The Movie?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 has provided multiple jaw-dropping and tear-jerking moments. Naming each of them could spoil the movie for many. However, fans should definitely go to the theatres to see a new Zenitsu Agatsumi, who has become the man Jigoro Kuwajima wanted him to become. Secondly, the movie is named โ€œAkaza Arcโ€ for a reason, and all the rage and hatred towards Hakuji for his past deeds will vanish in the movie.

It might sound far-fetched, but people will start to sympathize with him. Without a doubt, he is the star of the show. Thirdly, multiple former Hashiras made cameo appearances, making the movie star-filled. Lastly, the 98th Oyakata, Kiriya Ubuyashiki, and his two sisters, Kanata and Kuina, forming a team with Yushiro, is the support every Demon Slayer needed, even though no one thought about it.

Final Verdict

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 is definitely a 9/10. Everything feels perfect about the start of the expectations till the experience. However, one point has been reduced in the hopes of seeing the sequel achieve something greater. The stage for the sequel has been set with Upper Moon One, Kokushibo, making his cameo right at the end of the movie, revealing that he will be involved in the upcoming movie. Multiple Hashiras have yet to encounter an Upper Moon or Kibutsuji Muzan, and are still on the search for them.

However, one question that makes the upcoming movies more exciting is whether there are any Upper Moons who have the same ability as Muzan, of regenerating their head, even after it is severed. Part 1 raised the question, while Part 2 will answer it. For now, let us celebrate Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 to its core, by Setting Our Heart Ablaze.
