Demon Slayer anime is on the verge of its conclusion, with the first movie of the Infinity Castle arc already released. For years, the anime entertained the fandom with its narrative, along with Ufotable’s mesmerizing animation. Unfortunately, many lovable characters did not make it to the current scenario due to their deaths, and one of them happened to be the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki. During Demon Slayer Season 4’s climax, he sacrificed his life to trap Kibutsuji Muzan. It is quite surprising to see that a blind and sickly human is the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, but Kagaya’s other abilities make him the perfect person to lead them.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s Origin
Kagaya Ubuyashiki is a frail man of average height, with shoulder-length black hair parted from the middle, and pale skin. As a teenager, his eyes were white, and the pupils were lavender, but due to the Ubuyashiki Family Curse, they turned light purple. Due to the curse, the lifespan of the Ubuyashiki Family members, especially males, was limited to 30 years. It made his skin start to rot from his forehead, which ultimately increased and affected his eyes, causing him to go blind.
As the years passed, other parts of his body were also affected, and he became bedridden, with most of his body parts covered in bandages. Kagaya had a gentle demeanor and a serene personality, always keeping his cool and guiding others in the right direction. He loved the Demon Slayers like his children, and due to his nature, Hashira like Sanemi Shinazugawa and Muichiro Tokito also respected him and listened to everything he said. Everything about him was gentle, and it made him the most respected character in Demon Slayer.
The leader of the Demon Slayer Corps was married to Amane Ubuyashiki and had five children (four daughters and one son). Even though he had a softness and kindness about him, he bore extreme hate towards Kibutsuji Muzan. The Demon King was the reason why the Ubuyashiki Family was cursed since Muzan was from the Ubuyashiki Family, making him an ancestor of Kagaya.
What Abilities Do Kagaya Ubuyashiki Possess?
Kagaya Ubuyashiki might be a frail gentleman, but that does not define him. Although he lacks special abilities like Breathing Styles, he possesses foresight and extrasensory perception. Kagaya could predict the disastrous events that would take place in the upcoming days and help the Demon Slayers overcome them accordingly. He rightly predicted that Kibutsuji Muzan would pay him a visit and there would be a war between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Twelve Kizuki.
He can sense other people’s energy and determine their strength. It helps him in differentiating between a human and a demon. Apart from these, Kagaya Ubuyashiki is quite efficient at masking his emotions. Even Muzan was shocked to see how well Kagaya hid his bloodlust behind his smile. By putting up his serene and calm smile, he was able to trap the Demon King, ultimately leading to the final war, which he had already predicted.
