On July 17, 2025, one of the most popular modern-day Shounen manga series released its last chapter. Naoya Matsumotoโs Kaiju No. 8 has officially concluded after a massive-scale battle that almost destroyed Japan. For several chapters, the focus was on Kaiju No. 9 and the Meireki Era Monster, besting the Defence Force. However, Kikoru Shinomiya and Mina Ashiroโs brilliance set a path for Kafka Hibino to put things to rest for good.
With things returning to normal, Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 129 featured a wholesome conclusion to an entertaining manga. While most dots have been connected, there is a single aspect that Naoya Matsumoto failed to explain. The manga was filled with Kaiju, but the mangaka never mentioned their origin or how they came about.
A Conclusion Without Origin
Kaiju No. 8โs conclusion failed to answer the questions surrounding the origin of the Kaiju. For centuries, Kaiju have been terrorizing Japan, but Naoya Matsumoto never really explored their origin. Even for the antagonist, there was no explanation as to how Kaiju No. 9 came about or the Meireki Era Monsterโs origin. While the mangaka may have failed to highlight how the Kaiju came about, he may have given a hint regarding it.
Kaiju No. 8 was conceived through the sorrow, hatred, and rage of the soldiers who perished while subjugating the Meireki Era Monster. It could imply that all the Kaiju are made from the manifestation of someoneโs hatred or rage, and depending on their intensity, they become more powerful. Unfortunately, Matsumoto left that space empty. While several theories can be created, nothing will ever be considered the truth.

How Does Kaiju No. 8 Conclude?
While fans hoped to see a conclusion featuring the origin of the Kaiju, they will be saddened to know it will never come true. However, the manga did end on a wholesome note with Kafka Hibino surviving the final battle and waking up after a four-month coma. Mina Ashiro escorted him to the Tachikawa Base, where the Third Squad greeted him. All of his friends and colleagues were there. After the hard battle, Kafka returned to his duty along with his friends.
Kaiju No. 8 never left Kafka in a state of slumber. Whenever the time was right, Kafka transformed and helped the citizens by defeating the monsters. Unfortunately, it is not only the fans who wanted to see Kaiju’s origin that will be disappointed, but also the people who wanted to see Mina Ashiro and Kafka Hibino tie the knot.
