Kibutsuji Muzan is the strongest demon and the one responsible for creating demons in Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer. Over several centuries, Kibutsuji Muzan has created thousands of demons by sharing his blood with humans. Out of everyone he shared his blood with, only a handful have been able to reach their highest potential, making them the strongest after Muzan. The antagonist of Demon Slayer created the Upper and Lower Moons, popularly known as Twelve Kizuki, signifying the top 12 strongest demons under his belt. Here is a list of all the demons who have been established as Kibutsuji Muzan’s strongest pawns.

Demon Slayer Upper Moons
1. Kokushibo
- Rank: Upper Moon 1
Kokushibo is the second most powerful demon after Kibutsuji Muzan and has held the rank of Upper Moon 1 for centuries, with no one able to challenge him. Before becoming a demon, his name was Michikatsu, and he was one of the Demon Slayers and the elder twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni. Kokushibo was always jealous of his brother’s abilities, and when he encountered Muzan, he was too overwhelmed and decided to become a demon.
Kokushibo is a tall man with a muscular build, long hair with shades of red. His most striking feature is his six eyes and the Demon Slayer mark. Kokushibo has physical prowess that easily overcomes any Hashira, and when combined with his Moon Breathing Style and Blood Demon Art, he can annihilate anyone within a swift strike. He can bring out spikes from his body and sword as an offensive and defensive mechanism. Even after being the second most feared demon, Kokushibo was no match for an old Yoriichi.
2. Doma
- Rank: Upper Moon 2
Doma is a tall demon with long white hair with shades of red and black on the top. From his human days, Doma was the leader of a cult named Eternal Paradise Faith, which was dedicated to worshipping him. After becoming a demon, it not only became his preaching grounds but also helped him gain easy prey.
Doma bears a carefree and cheerful personality, but within, he is sick and psychopathic. Apart from his Blood Demon Art and Cryokinesis, Doma has enhanced physical abilities, regeneration, and can absorb other human beings upon physical contact. The Upper Rank 2 uses two Japanese war fans while practicing Tessenjutsu. Doma is the one who turned Gyutaro and Ume into demons, earning them a place in the Upper Rank 6.
3. Akaza
- Rank: Upper Moon 3
Akaza is a powerful Demon with a muscular build, red hair, white skin, and blue lines across his body. As a human, he was a specialist in Soryu-style martial arts. Akaza never used any weapons and used his bare fists while fighting. He became a Demon over a century ago and defeated multiple Hashira, including Kyojuro Rengoku.
Being a martial arts specialist, Akaza had raw strength and could easily take on multiple demon slayers. Akaza had enhanced physical prowess, regeneration, was a master in hand-to-hand combat, and had the Blood Demon Art Destructive Death. His Blood Demon Art technique allows him to wrap his hands in a blue aura, which is strong enough to withstand sword hits. As a human, Akaza experienced love and lived with honour, and for that reason, he never feasted on any woman, even though it could have made him more potent.
4. Nakime
- Rank: Upper Moon 4
Nakime is the latest demon to be inducted as one of the Upper Moons after Hantengu’s demise. She is a woman wearing a kimono and playing a four-string biwa. Nakime has white skin with long black hair and a large pink eye. She always showcased an aloof personality, keeping her distance from others. She is quite loyal to Kibutsuji Muzan and follows his every command without question.
Nakime is tasked with controlling the Infinity Castle, and everything reality warping within its boundaries is her doing, which happens to be her Blood Demon Art. Upper Moon 4 also has extrasensory perception like other Upper Moons, flesh manipulation, and can detach its eyes at will. Before becoming a demon, Nakime was a biwa player who found it difficult to make ends.
5. Gyokko
- Rank: Upper Moon 5
Gyokko is an extremely powerful demon with a weird-looking body. He looks like a djinn coming out of a vase and has a muscular build, multiple hands, an eye on his forehead, and another in the place of his mouth, and two mouths in place of his eyes. Gyokko’s Blood Demon Art allows him to create multiple vases within his vicinity, and he can teleport to any vase in an instant, making up for his lack of legs.
In his true form, he takes the shape of half-human (torso) and half serpent (below the waist), with the latter having hardened scales. In this form, his abilities are improved, turning him into his most potent self. Apart from his Blood Demon Art, he possesses all other physical abilities of an Upper Rank Demon. Unfortunately, he is quite sensitive about his vases and gets angry when anyone insults them.
6. Kaigaku
- Moon: Upper Rank 6
Kaigaku is a former Demon Slayer and the student of former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima. From the very beginning, Kaigaku was a coward, arrogant, and self-obsessed. Being an orphan, Jigoro took him under his wings, but he could never overcome his true nature. Due to his nature, he never joined the Demon Slayer Corps, but his ill-fate had him encounter Kokushibo during a mission. He immediately surrendered to the strongest Upper Moon and became a demon. Since he was strong, he immediately fulfilled the void position of Upper Moon 6, after Gyutaro and Daki’s deaths.
After becoming a demon, the most notable change in him was his pupil color, which changed to sclera from teal. He has every basic demon ability like enhanced physicality and regeneration. Since Kaigaku was associated with Thunder Breathing, his Blood Demon Art allowed him to create black lightning.
Gyutaro and Daki (Former Upper Moon 6)
Gyutaro and Daki are the only demons holding the Upper Rank jointly. It is because they are brothers and sisters, and they have always been together since their human days. Both of them are powerful demons with immense physical abilities, regeneration, and shared biology. They are the only demons who have shared biology, meaning they can reside in each other’s bodies, even though they are two separate entities.
Gyutaru can control her sister by implanting his core imbued eye on her forehead. Likewise, they both have separate Blood Demon Arts, with Gyutaro having flesh kama, which is a pair of sickles, and he can control his blood at will, while Daki can create flower-patterned obi slashes at will from her flesh.
Hantengu (Former Upper Moon 4)
Hantengu is a powerful demon and the only one to have multiple personalities. Being one of the Upper Moons, Hantengu’s powers were not limited to his basic demon abilities, but all of his emotions. His Blood Demon Art allowed him to manifest his emotions in a newfound demon, with everyone holding the same rank as him. He has seven emotions in total, with each one specializing in different things. As a human, Hantengu was a thief and murderer who was sentenced to death. Fortunately, Muzan came to his rescue and turned him into a demon with the most grotesque stature, even though his facial structure is similar to his human self.
Demon Slayer Lower Moons
1. Enmu
Rank: Lower Moon 1
Enmu has a slender figure with a pale complexion, black hair with red edges, blue pupils, and mouths on the opposite sides of his palms. He bears a cold and sadistic personality towards humans and enjoys their suffering. Enmu’s drastic change in powers came from him gaining Kibutsuji Muzan’s trust and also his blood in the process. Being the strongest Lower Rank Demon, he possesses immense physical prowess and flesh manipulation. Enmu’s Blood Demon Art granted him the ability to put anyone under deep sleep and significantly control their dreams.
2. Rokuro
- Rank: Lower Moon 2
Rokuro resembled an older man with a beard, yellow eyes, and long black hair. While nothing much is known about him, he is significantly stronger than regular demons since he climbed up the ranks to become Lower Moon 2. Unfortunately, Rokuro was killed by Kibutsuji Muzan after Rui’s death due to his inability to please him.
3. Wakuraba
- Rank: Lower Moon 3
Wakuraba resembled any other demon, with the most striking feature about him being his cross-shaped scars across both cheeks and foreheads. He was never shown in action, but was believed to be stronger than most demons. Like Rokuro, he was killed by Kibutsuji Muzan after the former tried to escape from the Infinity Castle.
4. Mukago
- Rank: Lower Moon 4
Mukago is a female demon with two horns, white hair, red eyes, and purple pupils. She had red markings on her face and wore a red kimono. Mukago suffered the same fate as Lower Rank 2 and 3 after Rui’s death.
5. Rui
- Rank: Lower Moon 5
Rui resembles a kid with purple-white hair and red circular marks across his face. He is barefoot and wears a white kimono with spider web markings. His Blood Demon Art allows him to perform Filukinesis, the method of creating silk threads from his flesh and manipulating them at will. He can distribute his powers with others, has regeneration, and enhanced physicality.
6. Kamanue
- Rank: Lower Moon 6
Nothing much is known about him, except for the fact that he was killed by Kibutsuji Muzan during the Rehabilitation Training arc, like several other Lower Moons.
