Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 14 highlighted the battle between two Sword Saints, Theresia van Astrea vs. Reinhard van Astrea. The latter is the current Sword Saint, while the former is a reanimated corpse of her former self. The episode ended with Reinhard slaying her reanimated grandmother in a single slash. The episode was quite emotional and left a scar on Wilhelm and Heinkel Astrea.
Apart from the battle, a major chunk of the episode was filled with flashbacks of Theresia. One of those flashbacks featured her demise at the hands of the Witch of Vainglory while she was on her quest to kill the White Whale. The Witch of Vainglory used her manipulative abilities to bring down Wilhelm’s wife.

Who is the Witch of Vainglory?
Pandora, known as the Witch of Vainglory, is one of the major antagonists in Re:Zero. She wears white, has platinum hair decorated with a blue ribbon, and emits a soft, bright glow. Though she rarely appears, her presence always signals impending disaster. Over 400 years old, she is the only Witch who freely roams the world.
Pandora first encountered Emilia in episode 19 while she was with Fortuna and Petelgeuse. The meeting ultimately resulted in the Permafrost of the Elior Forest, the manipulation of Emilia’s memories, Fortuna’s death, and Petelgeuse’s transformation into the Sin Archbishop of Sloth.
Despite her seemingly harmless and unassuming appearance, Pandora is one of the most selfish and sociopathic figures in the anime. She has orchestrated several significant events, including the Permafrost of the Elior forest and the death of Theresia Van Astrea.
What Are Pandora’s Abilities?
Pandora is among the most powerful individuals in Re:Zero. After absorbing the Witch factor of Vainglory, she became the Witch of Vainglory and ultimately mastered its Authority. As one of the Witches of Sin, she is also one of the nine individuals to wield a Witch Factor. Beyond her physical strength, she possesses the ability to manipulate phenomena, alter memories and senses, and resurrect herself.
During the incident of the Permafrost of the Elior Forest, we saw her effortlessly bury half of Regulus Corneas’ body with a single push and erase his presence from the Elior Forest. Pandora altered Emilia’s memories, making her forget the Witch of Vainglory’s existence, which left her deeply traumatized.
How Did Pandora Kill Theresia van Astrea?
During the subjugation of the White Whale, most of the soldiers were wiped out, leaving few in shape to fight the beast. Before Theresia van Astrea could take any step, Pandora appeared in front of her. In that exact moment, the Sword Saint lost her Divine Protection and could not lift the Sword Saint’s sword no more. With a different sword, she charged towards the Witch of Vainglory, and landed a blow. But the Witch’s ability to manipulate reality and self-resurrection, help her gain the upper-hand and kill Theresia.
