There are tons of anime that people can choose from to enjoy their free time. However, most of those anime have a few things in common – similar plotlines, lookalike characters, and an over-the-top, larger-than-life approach etc. While every anime is unique in its way, people often stereotype them based on these characteristics. Breaking out of the shell are parody anime that breaks these stereotypes and often implements new things while making fun of other anime. Here is a list of 10 parody anime that do a great job of roasting the stereotypical genres.

1. Gintama

However, he is reincarnated after meeting the goddess Aqua. The world where he is reincarnated has a fantasy game-like themes. Upon reincarnating him, Aqua appoints Kazumi Satou as the hero who will defeat the demon king and allows him to select a powerful weapon of any kind. Being good at nothing, Kazumi chose Aqua, only to find out she is quite useless. The two set out to find others like them and form a team to fulfill their goal.

4. Mashle: Magic and Muscles

Mashle: Magic and Muscles not only makes fun of the Shounen genre but also the popular movie series Harry Potter. Generally, every anime has its superpower, like Naruto has Chakra, One Piece has Haki and Devil Fruits, Jujutsu Kaisen has Cursed Energy, etc. While Mashle: Magic and Muscles is totally based on magic, the protagonist cannot use an ounce of magic and overcomes all the adversities using brute force. He trains his body rigorously, and somehow, even the most potent magicians fail to defeat him. The anime defies all the laws of physics, making people wonder if there is someone like this in the Harry Potter franchise as well.

5. Cromartie High School

Cromartie High School deals with delinquents, but it adds new elements to the story, making it more entertaining. He ends up applying to Cromartie High School, infamous for being overrun by delinquents and troublemakers. Ironically, Takashi passes the entrance exam, while his friend doesn’t make the cut. This marks the beginning of his bizarre and chaotic life at Cromartie, where he’s constantly surrounded by hooligans, robots, gorillas, and all sorts of odd characters. If anyone feels that it is a brainrot anime, it is fair to say that the anime has succeeded as a parody.

6. Osomatsu-san

Rather than having a dedicated plot, Osomatsu-san is more like a flower traveling in the direction of the wind. Following the life story of identical sextuplets – Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu, the anime explores the happenings of their daily lives. All of them are lazy with no motivation or determination, which is rare in any anime. While there seems to be no end to the fun, Osomatsu-san does a great job of breaking out of the stereotypical path and creating a world of its own.

7. Senyu

A ridiculous anime that lacks seriousness at its core. When people get over-inspired by Shounen plots, anime like Senyu is created, where everything is questionable but lacks proper answers. 1000 years after Creasion sealed the Demon King, a similar threat occurred. With no other way, the King orders the descendant of Creasion to repeat the mission of the great hero. Unfortunately, no one knows who the true descendant of the hero is, and 75 people emerge as probable descendants. One of them happens to be Alba, the protagonist, who also embarks on the same journey. While the comedy is never-ending, with every episode, it feels like the descendant might meet his demise sooner than completing the mission.

8. Beelzebub

Beelzebub is a great watch if someone is fed up with all the stereotypical plots and wants something refreshing. The anime revolves around Oga Tatsumi, who ends up with a baby from the Demon Realm named Beelzebub. The duo enters Ishiyama School and soon becomes the most popular and potent delinquents. From every aspect, Beelzebub feels unnatural – a demon helping a human, the demon is a baby, the characters seem over-the-top in their head, and high school students get involved with supernatural entities. When it comes to parody anime, few are as hilarious as Beelzebub, and on top of everything, it also provides fan service.

9. Sgt. Frog

Hailing from Planet Keron, the Keroro Platoon lands on Planet Pekopon (Earth) to conquer it. Unfortunately, the squad leader, Sergeant Keroro, has no interest in fulfilling his duty. The Keroro Platoon consists of four additional members: Private Second Class Tamama, Corporal Giroro, Sergeant Major Kururu, and Lance Corporal Dororo. While everything seems easygoing, their good times are affected due to the Hinata Family. Sgt. Frog brings a humorous combination of everyday life, science fiction, and army tropes, creating one of the best fan services.

10. Excel Saga

Excel Saga belongs to the parody genre, but its beauty lies in the fact that it encompasses everything. It does not follow a single parody, but rather a combination of parodies from different genres, such as romance, horror, sci-fi, and westerns. Il Palazzo is the head of the ACROSS organization and aims to take over the world. However, he is systematic and wants to start small. His first target is Fukuoka City, and he assigns Excel and Hyatt to complete the job. Unfortunately, the two young female officers always fail to complete the mission, even after the resistance is negligible. Excel Saga makes no sense, which is why it is a great parody anime.
