It has been only a few days since Star Wars: Andor Season 2 was released. Coming from a glorified and world-renowned franchise, the series explored the journey of Cassian Andor, a thief turned rebel spy. Tony Gilroy created the series, which acts as the direct prequel to the Star Wars Rogue One film.
Coming from the sci-fi genre, the series was critically acclaimed and helped the franchise gain several new fans. Season 1 earned three Primetime Emmy nominations, also. Likewise, there are several great anime belonging to the sci-fi genre. While they may not be the same as Star Wars: Andor, they do give off the same vibe with a galactic approach.

1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Legend of the Galactic Heroes features an intergalactic unrest between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. Both factions are trying to get absolute control over the Milky Way. However, thanks to Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li of either faction, they try to put an end to the war and bring peace throughout the galaxy.
While it is easier said than done, the two heroes are willing to do anything to conclude the power struggle. Resembling the concept of Star Wars, Legend of the Galactic Heroes has a well-developed plot that will be quite entertaining for sci-fi lovers.
2. Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is an anime where sci-fi meets survival instincts. With Earth’s surface turned into a wasteland due to the continuous bombings from the Gamilas Empire, planet Iscandar offers Earth its last chance at survival.
Iscandar possesses the Cosmo Reverse System that can turn the wasteland into its former self. Hoping to get their hands on the technology, Earth Defence Force creates a unique battleship, Yamato. Yamato’s crew consists of young talents to veterans, all with the same motive to complete a 168,000 light-years voyage and save Earth from destruction.
3. Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans

The Gundam franchise is known for bringing a new intergalactic story to life with every series. Iron Blood Orphans revolves around a few individuals from Mars who are looking to negotiate with Earth since the Red Planet has horrible living conditions and is getting worse. With the help of the Chryse Guard Security, Kudelia Aina Bernstein is set to journey towards Earth.
Unfortunately, they are attacked by the peace-maintaining faction, Gjallarhorn, who threatens to kill Kudelia, along with the people who are accompanying her. Instead of slowing them down, Kudelia’s group is more determined to fulfill their destiny. Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans is a great anime that explores intergalactic conflicts three centuries after the Calamity War.
4. Moonrise

Moonrise is the most recent entry on this list, having aired in April 2025. The anime has an expected twist at the end that makes it a must-watch for sci-fi lovers. To maintain a cleaner and greener Earth, humans have developed an International AI network called Sapientia, through which pollutants and criminals are exiled to the Moon.
To maintain peace on Earth, the Moon is getting readily exploited, and it has caused a war between the residents of either heavenly body. The protagonist, Jacob “Jack” Shadow, joins the Earth’s army after his family is murdered by the Moon’s rebel army. With vengeance in his mind, Jack experiences the shock of his life when he discovers an unexpected personality within the resistance force.
5. Star Wars: Visions

Star Wars: Visions belongs to the same franchise as Star Wars: Andor and thus will pique the interest of its lovers. Unlike other entries on the list, Star Wars: Visions does not follow a linear plot. This anthology series has each of its nine episodes as a short film celebrating the franchise through the eyes of the world-renowned anime creators. Also, each of the episodes will be produced by different animation studios, making each episode unique.
