Uoto‘s beloved sports drama 100M Manga (ใฒใใใใ Hyakuemu) is fast-tracking an animated movie adaptation for release in 2025! Along with the announcement of 100M anime movie, a new illustration and comment by Uoto were revealed.
100M Manga Doesn’t Have Typical Shonen Training Arc
100 Meters manga is essentially the heartfelt magnum opus exploring the obsessive pursuit of sprinting perfection. Moreover, the story follows a crew of elite track stars chasing that elusive 10-second 100 meter dream with uncommon passion and relentlessness.
It’s like “Whiplash” but replace the abusive music teacher with the cruel mistress that is the 100 meter dash. Every story beat radiates with profound insights about human limits, the sacrifices of athletic greatness, and what drives someone to demolish their mind and body for a mere 10 seconds of brilliance.

Buzz Around 100M Anime Movie
That poetic depth is likely why Hyakuemu struck such a powerful chord with critics and fans alike upon its debut. Additionally, we’re talking Manga Grand Prize winner from the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards – the youngest creator to ever claim that coveted honor. Furthermore, the series is so beloved that it even got Uoto a nomination at the Will Eisner “Anime Oscars” alongside shoutouts from librarian associations singing its storytelling praises.
Clearly, adapting such an iconic work into animation is a huge responsibility. A responsibility that has fallen to none other than Kenji Iwaizawa, hot off directing the film “Music” to worldwide acclaim and Annie Award nominations. Iwaizawa is essentially arthouse anime’s closest answer to an A24-level visionary auteur right now.
Comment (Translated)
Uoto
“I am truly delighted that this work is being adapted into an anime by this production team. I am excited and eager to see what kind of ‘speed’ the characters, who were manipulated by ‘distance’, will output through the ‘time’ of a movie. I am looking forward to the start of the race as a viewer myself.”
Kenji Iwaizawa
“I am very honored to be able to make ‘Hyakuem.’ into a film! Running is simple, but because of its simplicity, expressing it is challenging. Animation production is a steady process, but we are progressing step by step, so I hope you can wait a little longer until it is completed.”
No voice cast or firm release date beyond 2025 yet. But you can bet this flick just vaulted to the top of our Must-See list the nanosecond its titles start racing across the big screen. Our kudos stretch as far as Usain Bolt’s at the peak of his powers.
