One Piece Chapter 1158 revealed Yamato, O-Chou, and Kikunojo placing flowers on the grave of “Kozuki Moria,” and since then, the internet has gone wild with speculations surrounding Gecko Moria being from Wano. While the internet has been busy connecting Gecko Moria with Kozuki Moria, through the various incidents of the former’s life, there is one major question that lies in the background: Is Gecko Moria related to Kozuki Oden? It seems preposterous to suggest such a wild theory, but there are multiple references that point towards the theory being a valid one.
Gecko Moria May Be A Blood Relative Of The Kozuki Family
Suppose Gecko Moria is indeed the “Hero” Kozuki Moria, who is worshipped in Wano. In that case, there are very good chances that he might be related to Kozuki Oden and Kozuki Momonosuke. First of all, they carry the same family, and he could have been Oden’s brother and Momonosuke’s uncle. While it was never revealed whether Kozuki Sukiyaki had more than one child or had a brother who had a son, the theory speculates that one of them might be true.
Secondly, Oden left Wano to join the Roger Pirates more than three decades ago from the present timeline, and during that time, Wano needed someone capable to lead the country. Few of the Nine Red Scabbards were there, but they were not leaders, and on top of that, Kozuki Sukiyaki didn’t want to reveal his identity because of what he let happen to Wano. So, Kozuki Moria might have returned to Wano to fight Kaido, while Oden was sailing the seas.
Lastly, Kaido came to Wano almost 28 years ago, but did not immediately conquer it. He teamed up with the Kurozumi Family in overthrowing the Kozuki Family. It was not until a few years later that Moria found out about Kaido’s scheme and fought him in Ringo. Unfortunately, he lost and left Wano. During the battle, he fought with a sword, which is the signature weapon amongst Wano samurai. However, it was believed that he died protecting his family’s honour and is regarded as a hero. It was only after his defeat that Kaido and Orochi fully gained control over Wano.

Gecko Moria Could Become Straw Hat Pirates’ Ally During The Final War
The fan theory surrounding Gecko Moria being a blood relative of the Kozuki family also explores the fact that he could potentially be an ally to Monkey D. Luffy during the Final War. It seems far-fetched to think that the one who almost killed Luffy during the Thriller Bark arc, join hands with him, but at that point, the scenario was different.
Presently, Luffy has not only defeated Kaido and Orochi, but also restored the Kozuki Family as the leader of Wano and avenged Kozuki Oden. Kozuki Momonosuke is the Shogun of Wano, and the country has returned to a healthy state. Kozuki Moria failed to accomplish either of these goals and was forced to flee. Now that Luffy has succeeded, he might even feel a sense of gratitude toward him, despite them being enemies. Also, Wano has been declared to fall under the Straw Hat Pirates’ territory, so there is a strong chance he might return as an ally.
Also, if Gecko Moria is from the Kozuki Clan, he will most likely possess the ability to read poneglyphs, making him a crucial member of the Straw Hats. Currently, Gecko Moria sits in Blackbeard’s prison after being captured by the pirate crew. While the theory of Gecko Moria being Kozuki Moria, and him being related to Kozuki Oden, seems to be true, it has not been officially confirmed. Until it happens, the speculations will only be a part of the fan theory.
