Jujutsu Kaisen just revealed its new opening, which not only sets the mood for the whole series but has some easter eggs on what can be expected from the series. The opening song, titled Aizo by King Gnu, has established itself as a road map for the upcoming Culling Game arc. With just around a minute’s runtime, the music video was able to establish how traumatizing this arc is set to be.
Now, viewers who are set to view this frame by frame are going to notice how deliberate everything feels. From the introduction of new characters to unsettling symbols that are layered in the background, nothing is placed at random. What this really means is that studio MAPPA is not sitting around to provide shock value; instead, they are preparing us for what’s coming. Let’s break down the biggest Culling Game clues hidden in plain sight.
Characters, Colonies, and the Shape of the Game

From first appearances, it can be made out that the Culling Games is set to have various new characters introduced to the anime. Along with the original cast members like Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro, we see characters like Yuta Okkotsu and Kenjaku, who are important parts of this arc. The point to note is that Yuta, in the music video, is framed with calm authority, while Kenjaku is shown surrounded by cryptic imagery, reminding us that the game is his design, not a natural disaster.
The opening scenes also present views of where the battle may take place. The scene includes various colonies in the city, along with Urban ruins, sealed barriers, and distorted skylines, giving us our battleground. What makes it interesting is that these are not just random backgrounds. These fields are designed to dictate who lives, who scores points, and who gets erased.
Symbols, Power Shifts, and a World Past Saving
Apart from just showing the characters and setting, what this opening does is lean more towards symbolism. The strange runes that appear between cuts just cement the rigid rule system Kenjaku explains in the manga. With this, the opening also hints at the key idea that this game is not just a showcase of power; it’s about understanding and exploiting the rules.
We also see an interesting visual of baby Yuji being held by his mother, Kaori Itadori, at the very beginning, with a slight twist. We see Yuji’s mother having stitches across her forehead, indicating that she was possessed by Kenjaku’s mind control curse technique.

Further, as we come closer to the music video, we see various hierarchies forming, showing the impending threat of Ryu Ishigori and uneasy alliances involving Choso. Even showing Yuji and Megumi separated and isolated confirms that they are hinting at emotional and ideological fractures ahead.

Another interesting foreshadowing that was shown in the series displayed Maki Zenin with a tiger in the background, which was referenced from the Japanese print Kashiwade no Hanoshi by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. This indicates her path of vengeance against the patriarchal Zenin clan following the events of the Shibuya Incident and the subsequent Zenin family conflict.

MAPPA’s dark palette, sharp cuts, and restrained violence make it clear this arc isn’t about saving everyone. It’s about enduring a system designed to break people. The opening doesn’t promise hope. It promises consequences. And that’s exactly what the Culling Game delivers.
