Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow episode 3 was released on January 19, 2025, at 12:00 AM (JST). After waiting for a week, fans got to see Sung Jinwoo back in action. Like the past two episodes, the third episode did not feature dangerous dungeons that could challenge the protagonist. The latest episode featured something else that caught the attention of the fans.
While Sung Jinwoo was busy clearing a gate provided by The System, there was a certain individual who appeared on the other side of the world. The mysterious individual is Sung Il-Hwan, Sung Jinwoo’s father. Being an S-Rank Hunter, he could defeat fellow S-Rank Hunter Hwang Dongsoo quite easily. However, the debutant mentioned a certain threat coming for humans.
Sung Il-Hwan’s Anime Debut in Solo Leveling Season 2
When Solo Leveling began, fans knew that Sung Jinwoo had a sister and a sick mother. There was no mention of his father. But in Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow episode 3, Sung Il-Hwan returned to the human world after spending a decade inside a dungeon. He struggled to find his way out, and after years of searching, he found an opening. Instead of landing in South Korea, the gate opened in the USA.
The Hunter Association in the USA mistook him for a Magical Beast resembling a human and placed him under their custody. Since there was a language barrier, they called for Hwang Dongsoo, who could speak Korean. While the two were talking, Sung Il-Hwan mentioned a certain threat that was coming their way. Dongsoo thought he was joking and mentioned there were enough hunters to deal with the problem.
What’s the Threat Sung Il-Hwan is Talking About?
The Hunter Association has no knowledge about Sung Il-Hwan or him being an S-Rank Hunter. However, since he spent a decade trapped inside a dungeon, he has recovered crucial information unknown to the entire world. When he mentioned a certain power that was capable of bringing forth the ultimate catastrophe, he was talking about the Monarchs.
Humans need powerful individuals rather than a bunch of hunters to face the Monarchs. Sung Il-Hwan wants to avoid the catastrophe of the Monarchs trying to devour all the humans. Unknown to him, his son is already on the path to becoming a Monarch. A single Monarch can wipe out the entire humanity, so to avoid it, Sung Il-Hwan needs to gather the strongest of all.
