Cyberpunk Edgerunners was released in 2022 and was highly praised by critics for its narrative and animation style. It even won the Anime of the Year Award during the 2023 Crunchyroll Awards. However, there was no news about the anime having any sequels, and the fans thought it to be the end. Finally, things have changed as CD PROJEKT RED announced Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 will happen, and Studio TRIGGER will also be a part of the project.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Anime Expo held in Los Angeles from July 3 to July 6. It will not be a direct sequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but a standalone anime, set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. There were several faces during the event who were a part of the original anime.

Details About Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2
Cyberpunk Edgerunners featured a street kid as a protagonist, who is trying to survive in a technologically advanced world, where people are obsessed with getting their body parts replaced with machines. The protagonist decides to become a cyberpunk, rather than losing everything he has. With David’s death, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 will feature a new story featuring revenge and redemption, unlike anything before. It has been confirmed that season 2 will have ten episodes like the previous season. Unfortunately, the announcement did not come with any official release date, but the upcoming anime will be available to stream on Netflix, like its predecessor.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Officials Lit Up Anime Expo 2025
Anime Expo 2025 featured an hour-long livestream on Twitch named Cyberpunk Edgerunners – Behind the Scenes With Its Creators. During the livestream, several people who were involved with season one were featured, including Bartosz Sztybor, the producer and writer, Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director, and Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar, the voices of Lucy Kushinada and David Martinez, respectively.
The renowned cast and crew of Cyberpunk Edgerunners brought the spotlight on several behind-the-scenes details, information regarding the collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and Studio Trigger, and released the poster art and the official logo of the upcoming anime. However, the best part of the livestream was the passing of the torch moment. Kai Ikarashi has been officially appointed as the director of Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2, with Hiroyuki Imaishi officially passing the torch to him. After the livestream concluded, the attendees enjoyed the first teaser of Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 behind closed doors at the Peacock Theatre. After the exclusive experience, Netflix released the teaser on their YouTube channel, providing a look into Night City after David’s death.
