Dan Da Dan Season 2 Episode 5 premiered on July 31, 2025, and paid tribute to one of the greatest comedy anime ever. Episode 4 of Dan Da Dan featured Seiko Ayase and Taro using the Tokami Emitame Spell to seal the Evil Eye, and later perform an exorcism and help Jin Enjoji. The latest episode began with them performing the exorcism, but it turned out to be one of the best tributes to another anime.

The anime world is well accustomed to the name of Ranma ½, and Yukinobu Tatsu implemented a major element from Rumiko Takahashi’s magnum opus in Dan Da Dan Season 2 Episode 5, through Jin Enjoji.

Jiji’s Transformation Reminds of Ranma Saotome

With Taro getting control of the Evil Eye possessed Jiji’s body, Seiko Ayase, Momo, and Manjiro performed an exorcism on him. However, the exorcism failed to remove the Evil Eye from his body, which ultimately turned into a playful tribute. While having dinner, when a hot beverage fell on Taro, his voice changed to Jiji’s, and when his facial window opened up, others were shocked to see that Jiji was in control of the body.

However, Seiko smelled something fishy and threw cold water on Jiji’s face. In one instance, the face changed to Evil Eye, and people became more confused. Another exposure to the hot beverage changed him back to his human self. This toggle between human and evil subtly pays homage to Ranma ½, which features Ranma Saotome in the lead. In the anime, Ranma fell into a cursed spring, and from there, exposure to cold water turns him into a girl, while exposure to hot water reverts him.

Dan Da Dan Is Habituated With Paying Tribute To Other Anime

Dan Da Dan Season 2 Episode 5 is not the first time that the anime has paid tribute to another popular anime. During Dandadan Season 1 Episode 12, it was seen that Jiji was singing the opening theme song of Slam Dunk, named Kimi ga Suki da to Sakebitai. Surprisingly, in the same scene, Okarun sang the ending theme of Slam Dunk, Anata Dake Mitsumeteru.

While it was shocking to see them singing two songs from the same anime, it was a fun tribute to Takehiko Inoue’s creation. Apart from anime, it has also paid tribute to popular Japanese actors. Momo Ayase’s love for Ken Takakura, a.k.a. Okarun, has a subtle reference to the popular Japanese actor Ken Takakura, known for Remnants of Chivalry in the Showa Era and Black Rain. Then there is Hiroshi Abe, who is also a Japanese actor and Seiko Ayase’s favourite. Dan Da Dan featured Momo Ayase doing his impression in front of her grandmother.

From popular actors to popular anime like Slam Dunk and Ranma ½, Dan Da Dan is not shy of showing its love for other franchises. These playful tributes make the anime more enjoyable, and with Yukinobu Tatsu’s implementation skills, it is fair to expect more such parodies in the future.
