Creepy Nuts is one of the most trending musical duos currently. For the last couple of years, their songs have not only featured as Opening and Ending Themes of popular anime, but they have also won multiple awards, making it their most successful run ever. The hip-hop unit consists of R-Shitei, whose real name is Kyohei Nogami, and Kunihiko, popularly known as DJ Matsunaga.
Both of them have their individual trophy cabinets filled with awards, with R-Shitei winning five consecutive โULTIMATE MC BATTLEโ from 2010 to 2014, and DJ Mastsunaga winning the โDMC JAPAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 FINALโ and DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019.โ As a duo, they won multiple awards during Music Awards Japan 2025, Best Anime Opening Sequence during Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025, and many more.
Most of their recent awards came from performing opening and ending themes of anime. So here is a list of every anime that they performed for.
1. DAN DA DAN (Opening Theme Song)
- Song: Otonoke
Otonoke is a mix of J-pop, lo-fi, and electronic with a refreshing aspect that makes it pretty good to the ears. It blends modern music with electronics, with traditional Japanese melodies, bringing forth a song that can be played in the background as well as on loop. Otonoke is considered a masterpiece, and likewise, it earned Creepy Nuts their first Crunchyroll Award.
Here are the comments from Creepy Nuts ahead of Otonoke:-
DJ Matsunaga
The moment when I think, “I’ve created a song that doesn’t exist in this world,” is when I feel the most positive response to songwriting, and Otonoke is exactly that! I’m glad I made it!
R-Shitei
When I wrote this piece, I thought that when a ghost or spirit possesses a person, they “resonate with and connect with pain and sadness,” which is very similar to the relationship between music creators and listeners that I think of.
2. Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Opening Theme Song)
- Song: Bling-Bang-Bang-Born
Bling-Bang-Bang-Born earned Creepy Nuts global recognition and instantly became a hit upon its release. The funny vibes, energetic vocals, along with hip-hop and electronic touch, made it one of the most listened-to songs on YouTube. People started making videos of them dancing to the rhythm of Bling-Bang-Bang-Born, and the song even earned a nomination during the 2025 Crunchyroll Awards.
Creepy Nuts commented,
Creepy Nuts will be in charge of the opening theme song for Mashle!
It may be presumptuous to say this, but in a world where magic is commonplace, Mash, who cannot use any magic, smashes everything away as he is without a sword… We couldn’t help but see ourselves in hip hop, and this song was born.
“Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” is a coined word, or rather a spell I made up, but if you read the lyrics I think you’ll understand what it means!
It’s a charm that will really cheer you up! We’re confident in it, so we hope you enjoy it along with the anime!!
3. Call of the Night Season 1 (Opening and Ending Theme Song)
- Opening Theme Song: Daten
- Ending Theme Song: Yofukashi no Uta
Call of the Night Season 1 had its Opening and Ending Theme Song performed by Creepy Nuts. The hip-hop unit showcased their versatility by creating two songs with different backgrounds. While Daten has a dark and emotional approach, Yofukashi no Uta is uplifting and free-spirited. Interestingly, both songs are connected with the nighttime, having a major similarity with the plot.
They commented
There are people who can’t live until the sun goes down. I’m one of those people. I think this manga is like “night itself,” depicting the various ways of stretching yourself, being resigned, and going beyond what you can’t do under the sun, without denying or affirming them. I wish the page would never end. I wish we could write a song like that too.
4. Call of the Night Season 2 (Opening and Ending Theme Song)
- Opening Theme Song: Mirage
- Ending Theme Song: Nemure
Creepy Nuts did a back-to-back with Call of the Night, returning for the second seasonโs opening and the ending theme too. While both songs depict loneliness and a search for connection, Mirage is more elusive and has a hypnotic aura around it. As for Nemure, it is calm yet bittersweet, with a gentle and lo-fi rhythm.
For Mirage, Creepy Nuts commented
Season 1 depicts the night’s dry kindness and its role as a refuge for those who are saved there.
In contrast, Season 2 depicts the night’s damp side and its role as a place to dump lingering attachments and regrets.
It also depicts the adults struggling to come to terms with it.
As someone who has been staying up all night for 20 years, I just can’t help but
feel that this is something that doesn’t concern me…I know I have to live in the morning and day, and I should finally cut it off, but it just drags on…
This song depicts the sordid relationship between myself and the night.
For Nemure, Creepy Nuts commented
Night Song” starts with the phrase, “I loved the night since I was a kid,
but I hated going to bed at 9 o’clock. ” But now that I have children, I feel like I finally understand why adults made me go to bed at 9 o’clock. You can’t just teach something so fun and dangerous so easily… No, maybe it’s not something that’s taught or given, but something that you have to sneak around adults’ eyes and snatch for yourself. That’s what night and music were like for me. Until that time comes, I’m going to keep them all to myself.
