Chainsaw Man was progressing considerably slow pace after Denji defeated the Aging Devil in chapter 190. There was also an intimate moment between Yoru and Denji before the focus shifted towards a new transfer student, who was thought to be the Death Devil by the Fake Chainsaw Man.
While it was established that the transfer student was indeed a Devil and could take others’ lives to get revived, chances of her being the Death Devil skyrocketed. But Chainsaw Man chapter 198, out of nowhere, brought one of the biggest plot twists, revealing that the Death Devil had been on Earth all along, and was taking up Fami’s (Famine Devil) identity.
The Death Devil Got Us All Fooled In The Most Unexpected Way
The Death Devil completes the Four Horsemen with Famine Devil, Control Devil, and War Devil, and is considered to be the elder sister and most potent of the four. While everyone, including the fans and the characters, was waiting for the Death Devil to descend on Earth, Chainsaw Man chapter 198 revealed that she had been in the picture for a long time. She successfully fooled everyone and used the Famine Devil’s identity. Tatsuki Fujimoto has provided several plot twists but none came closer to this.
How Did Death Devil Reveal Herself?
The fake Chainsaw Man was clearly pointing fingers at the transfer student to be the Death Devil, and her powers shockingly matched death. Even after being severed by the Fakesaw Man, she took the life of a nearby student and got revived. The same happened when she took the lives of a few ants. The fans were ready to witness the Death Devil since they had gotten used to it in the last few chapters.
But as the chapter progressed, the eyebrows were getting slowly raised. First, it was the Falling Devil who suddenly appeared and crushed the Fake Chainsaw Man and the transfer student on the ground. Then, one of the popular faces of Chainsaw Man, Fami, appeared. The Falling Devil was considered quite powerful but it was following Fami’s orders, who is not even the strongest of the Four Horsemen. There was a doubt as to why she was doing it.
However, everything was cleared when Fami finally revealed that she was the Death Devil and had been using the Famine Devil’s identity to blend with others. The shocking moment was powerful enough to break the fourth wall and freeze the readers. The one pretending to be Fami was the Death Devil, while the transfer student who was thought to be the Death Devil was actually Fami, the Famine Devil.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Narrative Is Brilliant
With so much destruction going around, when the readers least expected, Tatsuki Fujimoto went for a home run and blew everyone’s mind. A clinical yet devastating introduction that might be regarded as one of the revelations ever.
Everyone is planning how to deal with the most horrendous devil ever, but somehow has failed to recognize it for a long time. The best part of all is that when Fami requested Death Devil to take her life for humanity’s sake, she revealed that she had already disposed of all of her internal organs but still remained alive. The mangaka has two birds with one stone, and revealing that the Death Devil is unable to experience death is truly a brilliant narrative at play.
What Does The Future Hold?
The way Tatsuki Fujimoto has silenced his haters with such a revelation depicts him as one of the modern generation’s greats. However, it was mentioned that the Death Devil is the strongest of all devils, and when she descends on Earth, the other powerful devils will greet her. So, with the Death Devil finally revealing herself, the other devils might follow soon.
Also, Denji has been continuously asked by Yoru to become a weapon to kill the Death Devil, but with the latter being unkillable, the protagonist might come up with a new way to end the Devil in the near future. Moreover, from what Tatsuki Fujimoto has done, it can be said that nothing is impossible for him, and Denji is the most unpredictable character ever. With Yoru saying to him that she will have sex with him if he kills the Death Devil, Denji could do whatever to make it true.
