Fire Force Generations Explained From Infernals to Adolla Bursts

As the name suggests, Fire Force only deals with one element of nature – fire. While other popular Shonen anime often use all five elements, Fire Force has established itself as a dominating franchise with one elemental ability. Atsushi Ohkubo has beautifully portrayed the concept and even made divisions within the fire abilities, making it more believable.

The fire abilities are known as Ignition Abilities in Fire Force, and they are divided into five categories: First Generation Pyrokinetic, Second Generation Pyrokinetic, Third Generation Pyrokinetic, Fourth Generation Pyrokinetic, and Fifth Generation Pyrokinetic. While the first three are the most prominent ones, the fourth one is conditional, and the fifth one is an exception since there is only one user in the anime as of now.

All Fire Force generations from first to fifth

1. First Generation Pyrokinetic

The mindless Infernals that inhabit Adolla are the First Generation Pyrokinetic. Due to the Spontaneous Human Combustion, humans turned into Infernals, with their bodies constantly burning. These creatures can be artificially made by injecting Infernal Bugs into a person’s body. Infernals are immortal beings and will only die if the core within their chest is destroyed. These creatures suffer from excruciating pain from their bodies being burned, and as a result, they attack anyone near them. The Infernals are categorized differently based on their abilities, starting with Demon Infernal, Sentient Infernal, Artificial Infernal, Great Infernal, to Titanic Infernal. Tempe is an example of a First Generation Pyrokinetic, after becoming a Sentient Infernal.

2. Second Generation Pyrokinetic

Second Generation Pyrokinetics and onwards are people who were able to control themselves and harness the Ignition Ability from Spontaneous Human Combustion rather than turning into mindless Infernals. They possess the ability to manipulate and control existing flames but cannot make flames of their own. Even though they cannot make flames, their ability to manipulate fire is greater than that of Third Generation Pyrokinetics due to the skill set they have acquired over time. Maki Oze of Special Fire Force Company 8 belongs to the Second Generation Pyrokinetics.

3. Third Generation Pyrokinetic

Unlike the Second Generation Pyrokinetics, Third Generation Pyrokinetics have the ability to create fire. They create fire by using the oxygen in their body, and when the oxygen gets exhausted, they are unable to create fire. People from this category can produce flames from any part of their body or certain objects. When it comes to physical endurance, strength, and ability, Third Generation Pyrokinetics is way ahead of the First and the Second Generation. Using their ability, they can physically enhance themselves, create electricity, heat metals to change the magnetic fields, etc. There are several examples of Third Generation Pyrokinetic, like Arthur Boyle, Tamaki Kotatsu, Leonard Burns, etc.

4. Fourth Generation Pyrokinetics

Fourth Generation Pyrokinetics are Third Generation Pyrokinetics, who have awakened the Adolla Burst or are blessed with the Adolla Grace. These abilities can be obtained by forming a connection with the Evangelist or some entity from Adolla. Fourth Generation Pyrokinetics are the strongest of the lot, making the Third Generation look like a child’s play. Their ignition Abilities are more powerful and often defy the laws of physics. For example, Sho Kusakabe can slow down time using his Ignition Ability, while Shinra Kusakabe can approach the speed of light.

5. Fifth Generation Pyrokinetic

There is only one individual who falls under the category of the Fifth Generation Pyrokinetic, and that is Benimaru Shinmon, the Mightiest Fire Soldier. The Fifth Generation Pyrokinetics has the ability to manipulate fire like the Second Generation Pyrokinetics and create fire like the First Generation Pyrokinetics, which makes them a hybrid. Benimaru Shinmon has showcased excellent control over either of these techniques, making him the most unique individual in Fire Force.
