If you thought the hype around Haikyuu!! was already off the charts, hold onto your sports bras. The anime movie franchise just smashed a major milestone that’ll blow your mind. The first flick in the two-part Haikyuu!! The final sequel project, titled ‘The Dumpster Battle,’ has raked in a staggering 10 billion yen (about $64 million USD). This success came at the Japanese box office after a mere 75 days. Talk about an absolute spike of success!

Haikyuu Ticket Sales That’ll Make Your Head Spin

Let’s break it down: 6.99 million tickets sold, the highest opening weekend of any 2024 Japanese film (only to get aced by the new Detective Conan movie later), and one Yokohama cinema showing this baby a ridiculous 33 times on premiere day just to feed the rabid fan demand. Sheesh!

To commemorate this blockbuster feat, the movie staff went full throttle. They slammed a special outdoor video ad on the massive 150-foot Shinjuku Wall for a whole week, letting everyone bask in Haikyuu!!’s glory. But that’s not all – new “Player Directory Style Bromide” collectibles are being handed out to fans attending screenings from May 3rd onward. Gotta commemorate that W!

Based on the iconic volleyball manga, The Dumpster Battle depicts the long-awaited face-off between rivals Karasuno and Nekoma. With series vet Susumu Mitsunaka back in the director’s chair, it’s a surefire spike to the fandom’s nostalgia.

And this is just the start – the second Final sequel movie is still cooking. If the trajectory continues, Haikyuu!!‘s total haul might soar to heights that’ll make you yell “Nice kill!” Keep an eye on this powerhouse franchise!
