Hunter x Hunter’s popularity is often compared to that of the Big Three of anime. The dark turns with each arc, and the narrative was exceptionally good. Yoshihiro Togashi was not afraid to make drastic changes to his creation, and rather than being criticized, fans loved them throughout. Hunter x Hunter has been one of the most impactful anime since the late 1990s, having been made into an anime twice, once in 1999 and another once in 2011.
However, the manga never reached its full potential due to the numerous hiatuses the mangaka had to take. Yoshihiro Togashi suffers from recurring back pains that happened due to spending hours in his studio creating manga panels. As a result, fans have lost hope of the manga getting completed. Last year, the mangaka even revealed four different scenarios of how Hunter x Hunter would end before making a surprise comeback later that year. Every time Togashi sensei returns, it brings joy to the fans, but with the number of hiatuses, everyone seems to have lost faith. Togashi On His Health Struggles
Yoshihiro Togashi has mentioned multiple times about his health struggles. He has a problem sitting up straight, due to which his magnum opus has been affected dearly. Previously, Yu Yu Hakusho had a rushed ending, and now Hunter x Hunter is suffering from the same fate. His recurring back pains have been the main reason for his many indefinite hiatuses. He has been hospitalized several times for it.
Yoshihiro Togashi said,
“The bitterness of lower back pain is that you can only go to the hospital after recovering to some extent.”
He also commented, “When in the 10th level of pain out of 10, I couldn’t move my body for even 1 cm all night.”
Most of his comments are surrounding his health issues.
Memes Surrounding The Hunter x Hunter Hiatuses
The irregular chapter releases have led to the birth of several online memes with the Hunter x Hunter fandom behind them. One of the memes is regarding other fandoms crying over the one-month late release of a chapter, while the HxH fans have to wait for eternity. Another funny one had Yoshihiro Togashi saying there would be a chapter next week, only to reveal that he was joking. Due to the indefinite hiatuses, people often compare chapter releases with Gon finding his father, Ging. While the future looks uncertain, at least Togashi sensei gave out the potential ending of the manga.

According to Togashi’s X (formerly Twitter) account, he is working on Chapter 426. Fingers crossed! Fans get to see these new chapters soon.
