The Egghead arc is currently headed towards its climax with the Straw Hats facing the wrath of Saint Jaygarcia Saturn and the Buster Call. While the anime watchers are yet to experience peak Egghead, the manga readers have already experienced it a few months ago. During the initial stages of the arc, One Piece introduced a giant robot named Emet, who lay dormant on the island. It may be news to many, but Emet is from Joy Boyโ€™s era and shared a special bond with him. Nicknamed the Iron Giant, Emetโ€™s connection to Joy Boy proved beneficial for the Straw Hat Pirates in an exciting turn of events.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

How Is Emet Connected To Joy Boy?

The Iron Giant Emet was created more than 900 years ago during the Void Century. While the full extent of their relationship is yet to be revealed, Joy Boy considered him one of his dearest friends, and Emet was also quite friendly and loyal to him. Though he was a robot, Emet was sentient and capable of emotions. He cherished Joy Boyโ€™s company, while Joy Boy, in turn, looked out for the Iron Giant.

During one of their meetings, Joy Boy gave Emet a knot containing his Conquerorโ€™s Haki, so that the robot could use it in any dire situation. It was a one-time ability, and since Joy Boy would not always be there for him, he wanted Emet to be safe. However, it looked like Emet failed to carry out his original mission and was seen apologizing to him after waking up during the Egghead arc. Even in his last moments, Emet was seen smiling and reminiscing about his time with Joy Boy, showcasing the deep bond they shared.

Emet Sacrificed Himself For The Present Day Joy Boy

Emet is as large as an ancient giant, and his entire body is made of iron, with two pairs of horns. His true extent of abilities remains unknown, but it was enough to help Luffy and his crew escape from the grasp of the Five Elders. During the Egghead arc, he woke up after hearing the Drums of Liberation from Monkey D. Luffyโ€™s Gear 5 transformation.

Thinking it to be Joy Boy, he started to search for him, only to find it coming from Luffy. As a result, he used his last bit of strength to fight the Marines and the Five Elders. His iron body had barely any effect from all the attacks from the Buster Call, and he punched Saint Topman Warcury in his awakened form so hard that it broke one of his tusks and caused him to bleed.

Lastly, when the Marines and Five Elders surrounded the Straw Hats and their allies, Emet opened the knot containing Joy Boy Conquerorโ€™s Haki. The Haki was so powerful that it turned the Five Elders into their human form, and even Imu could feel its power from Mary Geoise. The bond that Emet shared with Joy Boy made him save the present-day Joy Boy so that the latter could accomplish what the original failed to do.
