Jump into a new era of manga with Jump TOON. Shueisha’s fresh platform serves up vertical, full-color comics for mobile viewing. Shueisha launched the new app and website yesterday in a move that could reshape how die-hard fans consume their favorite series.
Original And Traditional Manga In Vertical Color Format
Jump TOON is flipping the script on traditional manga. It is rearranging panels into a smartphone-optimized vertical flow with splashes of color throughout. Consequently, at launch, there are 28 original series and remixed classics like Haikyuu!!, all getting the vibrant, tall-screen treatment.

Exclusive And Early Access Manga on Jump TOON
But that’s just the opening act. It is stacked with plenty of manga munitions to keep readers hooked:
- Exclusive early access to hot new series before they hit print
- A back catalog of already verticalized hits from other platforms
- An open submissions program called “Jump TOON NEXT!” for indies to get published
The Evolution Of Jump & Vertical Manga Challenge
Shueisha is betting big that this vertiginous viewing experience will be a game-changer in the mobile manga market. Jump TOON’s editor-in-chief Takanori Asada hyped it as the next bold evolution, emphasizing how the industry is always seeking fresh ways to captivate fans.
Comment (Translated) by Takanori Asada (Editor-in-Chief of Jump TOON)
“If asked, ‘What is the essence of Jump?’ I would answer, ‘Jump is about change.’
From the era when manga magazines were the main purchase to the era when paperbacks started selling, from the era when only elementary school boys were readers to the era when older generations continued to read, from the era when smartphone viewing and subscriptions began to the era when readers around the world enjoyed manga simultaneously, Jump Group has always created interesting manga with creators and editors in response to these changes. This time, we are challenging ‘vertical manga.’ Please look forward to a new reading experience.”
From black-and-white pulp to full-color vertical streams, the manga biz continues to transcend formats. If the early JumpTOON lineup is any indication, up-and-coming artists could soon be trading pencils for pixels and panels forโฆpanels just built differently.
