MangaPlus, the manga reading app of the largest Japanese publishing company Shueisha, located in Tokyo, Japan, held a vote for the fans at Anime Expo 2024 to choose their favorite newcomer manga.
Kagurabachi manga, an original series written and illustrated by Takeru Hokazono has surpassed its competitors like Sakamoto Days, Nue’s Exorcist, and some other popular mangas to grab the title of fan-favorite with 590 votes. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 and as of July 2024, three volumes of the manga have been serialized.
The series has even managed to garner support from big authors. Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of “Naruto” (once part of Big 3, a title given to the Weekly Shonen Jump franchise), has praised the manga series and recommended the third volume. Earlier than this, Kohei Horikoshi has also recommended the manga’s first volume.

Kagurabachi Manga Story
Kagurabachi Manga delivers a revenge story about a boy Chihiro and his father Kunishige, a swordsmith. Kunishige creates Katanas enchanted with powers. A group of sorcerers attacks and kills Chihiro’s father, Kunishige, taking all 6 enchanted katanas he made, leaving one which eventually Chihiro wields, Enten. Chihiro then starts a journey to find the killers and avenge the death of his dad.
According to an interview given to MangaPlus by Takuro Imamura, the editor at ‘Weekly Shonen Jump’, Hokazono wanted to make a revenge story which is also his favorite genre, and is deeply inspired by Western movies like ‘John Wick’ and the game ‘Ghost of Tsushima’.
