Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius revealed the melty news! Tsutomu Nihei’s fantasy anime Kaina of the Great Snow Sea will conclude its manga adaptation next month.
The icy adventure led by illustrator Itoe Takemoto began serialization in February 2022, with the third Tankobon volume hitting shelves last October. But the June 26 issue will be Kaina’s grand frozen finale.

For the unfrosted! Kaina of the Great Snow Sea is a “boy-meets-girl fantasy” set in a world slowly being consumed by an endless winter wasteland. Humanity huddles above in arboreal refuges while protagonists Kaina and Princess Liliha fight to preserve the last habitable lands.
The manga was adapted from Nihei’s original story by Polygon Pictures. The snow-fantasy world anime premiered earlier this year to decent ratings in Japan. An anime film sequel, Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage, even hit theaters last fall.

While the manga is bidding Sayonara, international fans can still stream the anime anytime on Crunchyroll. No word yet on whether Takemoto has another frosty fable in the works or if this winter wonder has run its course.
Either way, Kaina’s fanciful world of elemental magic and snow civilizations made its mark on the fantasy manga scene… even if the Great Snow Sea itself is destined to smother the story’s homeland for good.
