KILLTUBE Anime Film Scheduled For Global Release In 2026

KILLTUBE Film! The upcoming Edopunk-themed anime film will receive the 70mm treatment in 2026. Asking about the Killtube release date? It hasn’t been disclosed yet. The film project is part of the “108 Experiments” initiative to develop new ways to create works, present them, and earn revenue to nurture original stories.

Kazuaki Kuribayashi is producing and directing this one-of-a-kind experimental project. He has a message for us, and let’s see what it is:

Let’s disrupt and explore

This project is an “experimental ground” under the guise of a theatrical anime. We aim to discover how to create original works from scratch, explore new expressions, deliver them worldwide, earn money, and nurture them properly. We still have a lot to learn, so we decided to give it a try. And, we hope to report the results of many experiments, learning from and receiving help from various people.

But What is Edopunk?

Let’s break it down for you: Edo refers to the Edo Period (1603-1868) in Japan, corresponding to present-day Tokyo. Punk signifies modern punk aesthetics and sensibilities. Thus, Edopunk is a fusion of Edo culture and contemporary punk.

What is Killtube?

Killtube is a dueling video platform where duel streamers come to pursue fortune and win their freedom in a segregational world. The story provided by the official website of this Edopunk theme anime is as follows:

Edo, 2026. During an era when strict social hierarchies were still the norm, the only way to change one’s social status is through “duel streaming.”

Duel Streamers received immense wealth and powerful military equipment from the sponsors as rewards based on the number of views – hence Edo is nicknamed the “Era of Duel Streaming.”

The top seven duel streamers will have enough influence to build their castles – the pure embodiment of social power.

This is the story of three “bottom-tier” individuals who miraculously meet in a prison cell, defy the mocking crowd, and cut through the “barriers” of this world.
