Mappa Starts 2025 with Natsuko’s Isekai Adventure in Zenshu Episode 1

MAPPA is one of the most prestigious animation studios in Japan. They have animated several major franchises, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Hell’s Paradise, Chainsaw Man, etc. In 2025, MAPPA returned with another intriguing anime, Zenshu, in the Isekai genre. Their last venture in this genre was Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, which was a mediocre hit.

However, with Zenshu, fans believe that their Isekai luck might return. With such a great plot and a unique plot nonetheless, MAPPA could potentially see one of the major hits of early 2025. Zenshu episode 1 was released on January 5, 2025, and it is fair to say that it was just a glimpse of what MAPPA has in store for the fans.

MAPPA Gave a Whole New Level to Natsuko Hirose’s Isekai Adventure

MAPPA has several projects lined up in 2025. Starting with Zenshu, they have Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill season 2, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, etc. They have a lot on their plate, and it got the fans worried about the quality of animation. However, after watching Zenshu episode 1, the faith has been restored.

MAPPA’s animators have given a whole new level to the Isekai adventure of Zenshu’s protagonist, Natsuko Hirose. The animator-turned-movie director somehow got inside the plot of a movie, A Tale of Perishing, which she has been watching since she was a child. The color palette and the background details are exceptionally detailed. First-time watchers will have a jolly good time since it is a treat for the eyes. The animation is also quite smooth which gives a clearer vision inside the plot.

How Does Natsuko Hirose’s Story Begin in Zenshu?

As per the official website,

“Natsuko Hirose, an up-and-coming anime director, was working on the storyboard for a feature-length romantic comedy film themed around first love, but having never experienced first love, she is unable to draw the storyboard.”

Natsuko Hirose is a gloomy character who has her face covered by her hair and wears a hoodie over her head. She barely speaks with anybody and spends most of her time in front of the computer or with the storyboards. Initially, she began as an animator, then climbed the ranks by honing her skills and became a director of a hit TV series. She is introduced as a self-centric person but might change as the anime progresses.

Zenshu episode 1 has been a home run for both MAPPA and the protagonist. While MAPPA returns with an Isekai with great potential, the protagonist embarks on a journey in a fantasy world to experience romance firsthand to write a rom-com story. She saves the heroes of the fantasy world by using her drawing skills. When the enemy army attacked, she drew a giant warrior who wiped out the entire army with a single blast. It is like an amalgamation of reality and fantasy.
