Instead of fighting evil overlords or rival ninjas, Kaijin Fugeki’s heroes will be waging war against the forces of nature itself. The story takes place in a world where young protagonists perform sacred rituals to summon gods and mythical powers to combat natural disasters like storms, earthquakes, you name it (that’s what I came up with from tweets and visuals).
The early teasers give us a glimpse of two young leads, likely the central duo, along with details like the “God of Fireworks, Kagurana” and “purification swords,” hinting at the divine arsenal they’ll wield. Knowing Oh! Great, we’re in for some beautifully rendered, kinetic supernatural battles.
The Debut Of Kaijin Fugeki
Kaijin Fugeki fires its first salvo in the pages of Weekly Shonen Magazine on May 29th. The premiere issue is going big with 80 pages of content including covers, an interview with the creator, and more. Oh! Great is breaking down his unique inspirations behind pitting tales of youthful bravery against the unbridled chaos of Mother Nature.
But It’s Shonen Afterall
It’s refreshing to see a fantasy series opt for a wholly original premise grounded in real-world themes and global issues like climate change.
Kaijin Fugeki feels inspired by beloved classics like Naussicaa of the Valley of the Wind while putting Oh! Great’s signature gonzo spin on things. If it connects, this could be the next big generational anime/manga franchise…unless it’s literally too hot for humans.
