The World Government was formed 800 years ago, with 20 leaders coming together. Since then, the institution has become the face of justice, commanding the world through its strict policies. The members of the 20 founding families reside in Mary Geoise and are known as World Nobles (Celestial Dragons). They are regarded as Gods and are responsible for forming the God’s Knights and the Gorosei, with Imu sitting at the pinnacle.
They can kill anyone at will, but looking at them directly is deemed a punishable offense. With such a powerful system, the World Government makes all the rules in the pirate-filled world. Here is the list of all the known families in One Piece that were responsible for making the World Government into a reality.

All Known Founding Families in One Piece
1. Nerona Family
Very little is known about the Nerona Family from the Void Century. It is mentioned that the one who led the family was Saint Imu, who is likely the one who sits on the World Throne and commands the Gorosei. They are believed to have gained immortality through the Perennial Youth Operation, performed by a previous user of the Ope Ope no Mi.
2. Jaygarcia Family
The Jaygarcia family was a crucial part in the formation of the World Government 800 years ago. Saint Jaygarcia Saturn is a former Gorosei and held the title of Warrior God of Science and Defense. He orchestrated several evil things, like turning Bartholomew Kuma into a cyborg, performing experiments on Ginny, and being a part of the God Valley incident.
Saint Jaygarcia Saturn was supposedly immortal and lived for centuries, until Imu decided to kill him during the Egghead arc. He has the abilities of the mythical Zoan-type Gyuki Devil Fruit, which, in its awakened state, transforms him into a massive bull spider.
3. Ethanbaron Family
Similar to the above families, the Ethanbaron family also had a hand in the formation of the World Government 800 years ago. The only known member of the Ethanbaron family is Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, who is a Gorosei and the Warrior God of Finance. Saint Nusjuro’s mythical Zoan Devil Fruit transforms into a Bakotsu, a skeletal horse, in its awakened state.
4. Marcus Family
Similar to the Nerona family, very little is known about the Marcus Family. The only known member of the Marcus family is Saint Marcus Mars, who is one of the Gorosei and the Warrior God of Environment. Saint Mars can transform into a large serpentine bird thanks to the awakened form of his mythical Zoan-type Itsumade Devil Fruit.
5. Shepherd Family
Similar to the Figarland family, the Shepherd family has members on the God’s Knight and the Gorosei. Saint Shepherd Sommers is a God’s Knight, who was present during the God Valley incident, and Saint Shepherd Ju Peter, one of the Gorosei and the Warrior God of Agriculture. He has the abilities of the mythical Zoan-type Sandworm Devil Fruit. Since he has awakened the Devil Fruit, he can transform into a massive sandworm.
6. Topman Family
The Topman family is another important family since Saint Topman Warcury belongs to this family. He is one of the Gorosei and the Warrior Head of Justice. It is not only his status as a Celestial Dragon, but also his immortality and Devil Fruit that make him powerful, signifying the worldly status within the Mary Geoise. Similar to his fellow Gorosei, he also possesses the ability of a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, allowing him to transform into a massive boar with large tusks, otherwise known as Fengxi.
7. Figarland Family
Another one of the founding families of the World Government was the Figarland Family. They are one of the strongest families, having three of the fiercest warriors in One Piece. Figarland Garling was a former God’s Knight and a crucial figure during the God Valley Incident. Currently, he is one of the Gorosei, replacing Saint Jaygarcia Saturn.
He has two children – Shamrock and Shanks. Shamrock is following his father’s footsteps and is a God’s Knight. However, Shanks is a pirate, having started his journey on Gol D. Roger’s crew and later starting his own crew, the Red Hair Pirates. He is one of the Yonko, with a bounty of 4,048,900,000 berries.
8. Donquixote Family
The Donquixote family was one of the founding members of the World Government 800 years ago. Before becoming one of the founding families, the Donquixote family used to rule over Dressrosa. Even though they are World Noble, Donquixote Homing decided to relinquish his title and live among the ordinary people with his wife and two children.
Unfortunately, he was murdered by the people because of their hatred towards the World Nobles. A few years later, his son, Donquixote Doflamingo, became a pirate and ruled over Dressrosa until he was defeated by Monkey D. Luffy. Other known members of the Donquixote family, who are still World Nobles, are Donquixote Mjosgard and Donquixote Shivercalero.
9. Manmayer Family
Saint Manmayer Gunko is the only known member of the Manmayer family. She is a God’s Knight and known as the Devoted Blade of God, meaning she possesses the unique title of being the direct servant of Imu. Gunko possesses the ability of the Aro Aro no Mi, allowing her to target others using an arrow-shaped bandage at will. Surprisingly, Imu can also take possession of her body and do things to their liking. Gunko has not aged in the last 38 years, showing signs of immortality.
10. Rimoshifu Family
The Rimoshifu family is another of the founding families of the World Government. One of God’s Knights, Saint Rimoshifu Killingham, belongs to this family. He possesses a mythical Devil Fruit allowing him to transform into a Qilin in its form, awakened state.
11. Nefertari Family
The Nefertari family is one of the most popular families in One Piece, who were responsible for the formation of the World Government, but later were banished. The family was the ruler of Arabasta. Nefertari Lili was the leader who, during that time, unlike the other family, did not stay at Mary Geoise and decided to return to her kingdom.
However, soon after the World Government’s formation, she vanished, leading her younger brother to take over the throne of Arabasta. Nefertari Cobra and Nefertari Vivi are their descendants. The Nefertari family has “D” in their name, which was kept a secret, even among the family members.
12. Bavette Family
The latest chapter of One Piece revealed another of the World Noble families, the Bavette family. While no members have been shown explicitly, they are believed to be a powerful family, since they were one of the top scorers during the God Valley tournament, behind the Figarland family.
13. Satchels Family
Another one of the 20 founding families of the World Government, the Satchels Family, was introduced in One Piece Chapter 1161. The Satchels Family is also home to a God’s Knight, Saint Maffey. She is a tall figure distinguished by her dual-colored hair, sharp fangs, glasses, and a cigar between her lips. Saint Maffey possesses the ability to fire powerful beams capable of inflicting serious damage on her enemies.
14. Rosward Family
The Rosward Family is one of the earliest top 20 founding families of the World Government to be introduced in One Piece. They were introduced during the Sabaody Archipelago arc in chapter 497. Three members of the Rosward family have been introduced so far – Rosward, Charlos, and Shalria. Unfortunately, there is no information on whether anyone from the Rosward family has even been a member of the God’s Knight.
The other 6 families are yet to be revealed in One Piece.
