This past week has been a delight for every One Piece fan. And now the special Q&A release by mangaka Eiichiro Oda, is one where he will answer 10 vital questions. These 10 answers will divulge important aspects of the One Piece lore. Buckle up for here we have it all in one place!

Following Eiichiro Oda’s two-week hiatus from the One Piece manga due to his involvement with the One Piece Netflix live-action adaptation, fans are being treated to a Special edition where he has answered 10 vital questions!

Q1) How is Luffy able to take out things like goggles or a baseball helmet out of his hagoromo could scarf when using Gear 5th?
According to Oda, this is due to Nika’s powers based on fantasy and absolute freedom.
Q2) Sabo seems to be able to utilise the abilities of the Mera Mera no Mi (Flame Flame fruit) to the fullest since inheriting it. Did he undergo any training to achieve such mastery?
According to Oda, Sabo trains on a daily basis. He feels that Sabo regaining his memories helps him recall a bunch of things as well.
Q3) Has Dragon ever lived with Luffy?
According to Oda, Dragon might have lived with Luffy but certainly not during a period that Luffy can recollect. Unlike Bartholomew Kuma, Dragon was the leader of the Revolutionary Army which means that he could not afford his relationship with Luffy to be discovered- it would put our very own Straw Hat in danger. The mangaka wonders what Dragon must have felt while he let go of his family. Even knowing his feelings about seeing Luffy in Loguetown will be interesting.
Q4) Does Blackbeard’s ship named Saber of Xebec, have some connection to Rocks D. Xebec?
Xebec is the name of a type of ship. Therefore, the name might just be a coincidence or maybe not?
Q5) Did Roger teach Shanks the move Kamusari (Divine Departure) which he used to one shot Kid? Or did he just learn it by observing the pirate king?
According to Oda, Shanks learnt the technique by observing Roger from the back. With none of the pirates of the Roger Pirates crew being capable enough to imitate it, Shanks’ feat reveals his surprising talent.
Q6) How do the Cross Guild bounties work?
1 crown = 10 stars; 1 star = 100 million berries.
- Fleet Admiral: 5 Crowns or 5 billion berries
- Admirals: 3 Crowns or 3 billion berries
- Vice Admirals: 5 stars or 500 million berries
- Rear Admirals: 3 stars or 300 million berries
- Commodores and Captains: 1 star or 100 million berries
- Field Officers (Commander and lower): > 1,000,000 berries
- Junior Officers: > 100,000 berries
Q7) What is Kuzan’s job as the Tenth Titanic Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates? Does he have any subordinates?
According to Oda, Kuzan does have subordinates. However, he isn’t someone who is fully obedient to Blackbeard. The mangaka feels that Kuzan joining the crew was more about him living his life with absolute freedom rather than with an intent to commit criminal acts. However, his actions have still resulted in casualties.
Q8) What kind of system is the World Military Draft that conscripted marines such as Fujitora and Ryokugyu?
Every country affiliated with the World Government has soldiers defending their respective nations. The World Military Draft appoints the most capable of these soldiers to the Marines. The consequent weakening of the country’s military power might have been the reason behind the success of the Eight-Nation Revolution.
Q9) What happened in the Rocky Port incident which earned Koby the nickname of “the Hero”?
The mangaka did not draw it as it would be too long to be included in the main story. Essentially, Law hijacked a passenger ship called Rocky Port to travel to Pirate Island where a Poneglyph was supposed to have been hidden. The ship was carrying the king and other important figures of a certain country. However, in actuality, Law boarded a smuggling ship that was conducting business with Pirate Island under the flag of the same country. This resulted in Law coming in contact with other forces. Later, Koby and Blackbeard boarded the ship with their agendas. However, as things turned out, the three ended up fighting together which gave the incident its name. Consequently, Blackbeard became King of Pirate Island, Law joined the Royal Sea Warlords and Koby came to be known as the “Hero”.
Q10) How strong is St. Garling who fought the pirates in the God Valley Incident?
According to Oda, St. Garling is strong and there is a reason for it. I wonder what it is!
