He then joined the Marines and was promoted to Admiral.

One Piece SBS 110: Fujitora’s Backstory
Similar to Ryokugyu, Fujitora was drafted into the Marines by the World Military Draft to serve the national defense of the World Government. Upon losing his money at a gambling house in West Blue’s Souja Island (Twin Snakes Island), Issho came to work as a bodyguard until the place was bought by the Government. Formerly, while he was residing in the Grandline, Fujitora was the Head of Guards of a country known as the Aoi Kingdom. Was it Kizaru who fed Luffy in Chapter 1103?
In chapter 1103, Luffy started eating a bunch of food which really helped him. However, someone had to provide him with the food given that, there was none nearby. Although Sanji and Franky, Sentomaru and Kizaru were nearby, no one noticed it happening. The conclusion is that it must have been carried out at the speed of light for it to be undetectable. The mangaka then mischievously stated he wasn’t sure who it could be and then went on the emphasize on the concept- speed of light!
