One Piece Volume 112, titled “The Harley,” was released on July 4, 2025. The volume covers chapters 1134 to 1144, and like always, there is a special section dedicated to the SBS. SBS means “Shitsumon o Boshou Suru?” which means “I’m Taking Questions?” but in this case refers to a question-and-answer session between Eiichiro Oda and the fans. The mangaka answers a few selected questions from the fans. One Piece Volume 112 SBS featured some exciting questions, and here they are as follows.
Question: What was Gaban’s role in the Roger Pirates?
Answer: The Roger Pirates are the most legendary Pirate crew in One Piece, and likewise, they have a bunch of strong characters. The latest one to be introduced in One Piece is Scopper Gaban. To answer the question, Eiichiro Oda revealed that Scopper Gaban used to be the Navigator of the Roger Pirates. Apart from Scopper Gaban, he also revealed the roles of other members on the Oro Jackson. They are as follows:
- Captain – Gol D. Roger
- First Mate – Silvers Rayleigh
- Tactical Officer – Moon Isaac Jr.
- Doctor – Crocus
- Helmsman – Donquino
- Torturer (Interrogator) – Millet Pine
- Scholar – Rowing

Question: Is the man with sunglasses who appeared in Chapter 1096 Gil Bastar?
Answer: Eiichiro Oda confirmed the man with the sunglasses in One Piece Chapter 1096 to be Gil Bastar, the protagonist of a manga when he was 17. Surprisingly, there was another Gil Bastar, who was a member of the Rocks Pirates, and after his death, Gecko Moria took his corpse. The character appeared during the Thriller Bark arc in Chapter 450.
Question: Odachhi!! Hello!! The King’s Left Hand – Scopper Gaban, was his name taken from Space Sheriff Gaban? I used to watch it on TV as a kid.
Answer: The name Scopper Gaban was inspired by an old-school French actor named Jean Gabin. While his name is pronounced as “Gyaban,” it was originally scheduled to be Scopper Gabin. It is another incident of Oda loving old movies and borrowing names from them.
Question: I really love the atmosphere of the village of Elbaph! Is there a country or town where it was modeled after?
Answer: Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Elbaph is inspired by Northern Europe (Scandinavia) from the Viking era. The village that he drew in Volume 86 was the same village that he was inspired by. However, he drew it from a different angle to make it look otherwise.
Question: Hello Oda-san! What is the Dosundada Tribe? Are they a tribe of mixed race between Giants and Dwarves? (Or maybe between Ancient Giants and Dwarves?)
Answer: The Dosundada tribe mentioned by Scopper Gaban during the Elbaph arc is actually a hybrid race between humans and dwarves. The Tontatta tribe was named after the sound of their footsteps, and likewise, the Dosundadas tribe was named after the sound of their footsteps, “Dosundada.” Also, the mixed race between giants and dwarves is called the Zushindodo tribe.
Question: Vegapunk’s cousin, Vegapants, is in Pants (underwear) Hazard, but what kind of island is it, and what kind of person is he?
Answer: Dr. Vegapunk has a cousin named Vegapants. He is the son of Vegapunk’s father’s little brother. Vegapants resides on Pants Hazard, which is located in the South Kingdom of Baldimore. Since the residents of the Pants Hazard wear women’s underwear on their heads, Vegapants also has to do the same.
Question: Odacchi!! In the Elbaph arc, those strange animals from the movie Strong World keeps on appearing!!! I really love the idea of them being incorporated in the main story!!!
Answer: The giant animals that appeared in Elbaph are the evolved forms of the animals that were in the movie, One Piece: Strong World. The idea of animals raised in a warrior island was the inspiration, but in reality, he was too lazy to come up with something new.
Question: The “speech recognition ability” of the transponder snail that’s beside Loki, how does it differ from the other transponder snails?
Answer: The transponder snail beside Loki can understand human language to some extent, and that is why other people can answer it without holding it. Generally, the transponder snail’s “speech recognition ability” comes from the user picking it up and answering it. But since Loki’s one is too large, it cannot be picked up as Loki is restrained.
Question: The pirate crew that appears in CH. 1122 is that “Legendary Pirate Crew” right!?
Answer: The One Piece mangaka revealed that the “Legendary Pirate Crew” that appeared in One Piece Chapter 1122 was created almost 25 years ago during a Jump Project. The three main characters of the Pirate Crew were Hippie the Skull Curry, Scimictar, and Hiro Gomon, designed by Eiichiro Oda, Nobuhiro Watsuki, and Takei Hiroyuki, respectively.
Question: Tsubasamaru: Hello Odacchi-san! Because Ripley and Gerd are Giants, are their cup sizes “W” as in “World Cup”?
Answer: Eiichiro Oda would calculate the cup sizes of Ripley and Gerd to be 6M, but for the sake of the question, he acknowledged the size to be “W” as in “World Cup.”
