In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Part 1 Movie, the beloved Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho, was killed by Upper Moon Two, Doma. After fighting valiantly against the demon, Shinobu Kocho succumbed to her injuries and was absorbed by Doma. She tried her best and even hit Doma with multiple poisons, but he overcame them quickly. On the other hand, Doma used his Blood Demon Art to generate ice from his blood, and if inhaled, the individual will die with their lungs dying out. Unfortunately, Shinobu inhaled it while using her Breathing Technique.

It was one of the saddest moments for the fans, but the situation became worse with Kanao entering the scene while the Insect Hashira was being absorbed. It was at this moment that Shinobu made a hand gesture to Kanao before passing. It was a strange hand gesture and has been the topic of a hot debate amongst the fans. Unknown to many, it was Shinobu trying to warn Kanao Tsuyuri about Doma.

Shinobu’s Hand Gesture Was A Secret Signal To Kanao

Shinobu Kocho’s hand signal has a couple of meanings. The first one is that it resembles the Japanese sign language of “Su” (す) and “Na” (な), which means “Don’t.” “Don’t” can mean a lot of things, like don’t fight Doma or don’t fear. The second one is that the hand gesture also resembles the Kanji for Ice. So, when these two things are combined, it can be understood that Shinobu was likely warning Kanao not to breathe since Doma has covered the area with ice, which is his Blood Demon Art, and if inhaled, it will kill Kanao. The message was secretive and a warning to her protégé on how to deal with Upper Moon Two.

What Was The Motive Behind The Hand Sign?

Well, warning Kanao was the primary motive of Shinobu, but there was another reason why she did it. During the Hashira Training arc, Shinobu called Kanao to talk with her, but what the topic was remains unknown. However, it is predicted that it will most likely be something related to facing the demons. Shinobu only knew Doma from Kanae’s explanation. So, after encountering him, she tested the demon thoroughly to learn everything about him. While Kanae could not explain Doma’s abilities to Shinobu, the latter did so in the hopes of making Kanao understand the opponent and do things accordingly.
