Netflix released Devil May Cry anime on April 3 in collaboration with creator Adi Shankar and Studio Mir. After producing successful anime like Dota, Tomb Raider, and Castlevania, Netflix dipped its hand to bring yet another anime adaptation of a game-based franchise.
The anime, based on the Capcom video game of the same name, follows Dante, a demon hunter for hire, who is in the crosshairs of a demon-hunting Government Organization and demons led by their leader, White Rabbit. The Gates of Hell are about to be opened, and our hero must fight his way to stop the apocalypse.
The season is well-received by the reviews from critics and the audience. A week after the successful release, Netflix officially announced the series had been renewed for another season. One of the famous characters in the franchise, Vergil, Dante’s Twin Brother, is teased throughout the series, especially in the end, and might be the next big antagonist in the next season.

Early Life of Vergil in Devil May Cry Series
As mentioned, Vergil is the twin brother of Dante and also one of the major antagonists of the DMC series. Vergil and Dante were conceived by a demon from hell known as the legendary warrior, Sparda, and his human wife, Eva. For unknown reasons, Sparda died while fighting in the nether realm, and he left his family in the human realm in a huge house in Red Grave City.
With no one to protect the family, Mundus, the demon king, attacked the family one night to get the Perfect Amulet, which was split in two and given to the brothers. Vergil was playing outside the house during the attack and was surrounded by the demons. Vergil awakens his demon blood as he watches his house burn and kills every demon in his path with his demon sword, Yamato.
After killing the demons, Vergil doesn’t find anyone at the house and assumes that his family has abandoned him. However, Eva was killed by the demons while searching for him.
After the attack, both brothers went their own separate ways. Dante decided to embrace his human side on earth, and Vergil embraced his demonic lineage in hell.
Vergil is the exact opposite of his brother and might be more admired than Dante by the fans. Unlike Dante, who wears red and likes an easy life, Vergil wears blue and is serious all the time. He only speaks with his long, samurai-like sword, Yamato.
Vergil’s main focus has always been to gain the power of Sparda and defeat his brother, which caused a lot of clashes between them throughout the franchise.

What to expect from Vergil in Devil May Cry Season 2?
After Vergil was teased as the champion of Mundus at the end of season 1, many would want to know Vergil’s arc in season 2. Dante learns that his brother is alive, but before he can go after Vergil, he gets captured by DARKCOM. In DMC 3, Vergil is defeated by Mundus in a secret ending. He is then tortured and transformed into The Dark Knight, Nelo Angelo. After various conflicts throughout the game, Dante finally defeats him.
The show’s creator, Adi Shankar, has introduced a fresh and tragic arc to the narrative and changed many things from the original games, so Vergil could be brainwashed, mind-controlled, or fully aware of his actions; all these possibilities could happen in the next season, given his nature. The show is renewed for season 2, which could explore more of the brothers’ relationship and Dante’s fight against his nemesis.
