The world of Jujutsu Kaisen has always shown cursed techniques as philosophies, rather than flashy moves or power boasts. You can take a look at the Zenin Clan’s Ten Shadows Technique, which, although it looks like a straightforward shikigami-summoning ability, represents a long-term system built around loss, adaptation, and inheritance. In this technique, each one of the shikigami is important and valued because once it is gone, the user never gets to use it again.
While that Shikigami is gone, its power remains and is distributed amongst the other Shikigamis. This forces the user to change their fighting style completely, going from using brute force to implementing strategies on the battlefield. So let’s break down the Ten Shadows Technique that has been passed down in the Zenin Clan.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Zenin Clan’s Ten Shadows Technique
1. Divine Dogs (White & Black)

Starting from the very basic, “The Divine Dogs” are the foundation of the Ten Shadows Technique and the first shikigami every user starts with. Whenever summoned, these Shikigami arrive in pairs, one black and the other white, with abilities of tracking and close-range combat. These dogs are capable of tracking cursed energy and can chase their targets effortlessly.
A plus point for Divine Dog is that, whenever it is destroyed, it does not vanish. Instead, it evolves into Divine Dog: Totality, inheriting the fallen one’s power. This evolved version is faster, stronger, and more lethal, and can even inflict lethal damage on a special-grade cursed spirit. Symbolically, Divine Dogs establish the core rule of the technique: loss leads to growth. The user isn’t punished for failure. They’re forced to adapt.
2. Nue

Nue is a winged shikigami that attacks using lightning-based cursed energy. It excels in aerial combat and large-area suppression. Nue isn’t about precision. True utilization of Nue’s power comes through control. This shikigami is usually used to gain an advantage or an upper hand on the battlefield. Attacking the enemies from the top tends to soften targets, disrupt groups, and even create openings for other shikigami to capitalize on.
Nue can also fuse with another Shikigami. When fused with other summons, like the Toad, it becomes even more versatile. This Shadow has the ability to dominate a great surface area, not just the ground, but the air as well. This indicated that Nue is a threat of attack that can come from anywhere.
3. Great Serpent

Like some others in this list, the Great Serpent Shikigami is a massive snake that has deadly stealthy properties. This shadow is mostly used in case of surprise attacks and immobilization, rather than showcasing raw durability. Its ability to emerge from the shadows and wrap around the opponents creates an amazing window of opportunity that can be effectively used. What makes this summon highly risky is that it is one of the most fragile shikigamis in the lot, and once destroyed, it cannot be resummoned.
4. Toad

The Toad shikigami is a support-oriented summon designed for restraint and utility. It can bind enemies with its tongue, shield allies, and assist in movement by launching or catching the user.
What makes Toad interesting is its compatibility with fusion. When combined with Nue, it creates a hybrid summon capable of flight and restraint simultaneously. This flexibility is a major strength of the Ten Shadows Technique.
5. Max Elephant

Max Elephant is one of the strongest shikigami that is present in this technique. Having a summon in the form of an enormous elephant that releases massive volumes of water is truly a game-changer on the battlefield.
This shikigami also has the ability to flood areas and crush enemies under its sheer pressure. While it is not fast, Max Elephant’s true potential is in environmental control. It can easily reshape the battlefield and turn the momentum to the user’s side, overwhelming opponents who rely on agility.
6. Rabbit Escape

Rabbit Escape is the true definition of strength in numbers. This summon brings in hundreds of rabbits, which scatter in all directions. This naturally helps in any escape tactics, or also assists in breaking the line of sight for opponents that attack from a longer range. Against sorcerers who rely on visual cues or cursed energy tracking, this technique can be devastating.
7. Piercing Ox
This one shikigami is a high-risk, high-reward type character. Piercing Bull has the ability to charge in a straight line, and the longer it runs uninterrupted, the more powerful it becomes. If it has been running uninterrupted and it hits the opponent in full momentum, its damage could be catastrophic. While that’s the plus, this shikigami also has a bad side. It does require a clear path and proper timing to achieve its full power. If it is interrupted, it loses all its momentum and power.
8. Round Deer
Round Deer is considered to be the rarest of the shikigami that have been introduced in the series. And this is not because of the number of times it has appeared on screen; it’s because it does something that no other shikigami can do. What’s different about Round Deer is that it uses positive energy to heal. This makes it a valuable asset on a long battlefield. It shifts Ten Shadows from a purely offensive technique into something sustainable. Few cursed techniques offer this kind of internal balance.
9. Tiger Funeral
The Tiger Funeral shikigami is one of the unknown shadows that have been introduced in Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga chapters. While its usage and technique have not been disclosed to the audience, it is shown as a part of the Merged Beast Agito during the battle between Sukuna and Satoru Gojo.
10. Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga

Mahoraga is the ultimate shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique and its greatest curse. One of the risks of having this beast out is that no one can properly control it unless the user defeats it in a ritual exorcism. To date, Sukuna has been the one to have completely taken control over the beast after taking over Megumi’s body.
Mahoraga’s main ability is to adapt to any situation. If it survives a particular attack, it adjusts itself to it, making sure it is ineffective in the future. This makes it nearly impossible for any sorcerer to stop him for good.

Chimera Shadow Garden (Technique Completion)
While not a shikigami, Chimera Shadow Garden represents the completed form of the Ten Shadows Technique. Being a type of domain expansion, this technique allows the users to use shadow as their environment, where he or she is allowed to summon shikigamis freely and unpredictably. While being an incomplete domain expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden’s flexibility, creativity, and overwhelming pressure are enough to take down multiple special-grade monsters.
Additional Technique Merged Beast Agito
Merged Beast Agito is an improved technique for the Shikigami of Nue, where it combines with other shikigamis like Great Serpent, Tiger Funeral, and Round Deer. This beast can be summoned through the Ten Shadows technique, which was shown by Sukuna during his huge battle with Satoru Gojo. Through Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga chapters, it can be considered that the character is a second in command, behind Mahoraga, with superhuman strength and high regeneration powers, containing the properties of all the shikigamis that have been combined.
