The anime and manga industry has gone through a massive transformation in the last decade. One of the reasons behind such success is the animation department. The animation has greatly improved, and one of its pioneers is an animation studio known as Science Saru. Science Saru is one of the most well-known animation studios, that recently animated one of the most talked about anime of 2024, Dandadan.
Science Saru’s popularity is not limited to Japan, rather it has spread through the western countries too. Recently, the animation studio completed 12 years. With tons of anime under its belt, fans are hopeful that it will go on with its success in the future.
Science Saru Completes 12 Glorious Years
Science Saru was founded on February 4, 2013, and celebrated its 12th Anniversary on February 4, 2025. Producer Eunyoung Choi and producer Masaaki Yuasa founded the animation studio. Even though Science Saru is a Japanese animation studio, its peers are available worldwide. Its headquarters are in Kichijoji, Musashino, Tokyo. Rather than downs, Science Saru has mainly seen ups in its 12 years as an animation studio.
Apart from producing popular anime, like Dandadan and Devil Man Crybaby, it has also produced several animated movies. Through those anime and movies, it has won several awards, including the Japan Academy Film Prize and the Mainichi Film Awards. One of the reasons why it can be differentiated from other animation studios is because of its hybrid animation production. The hybrid animation production combines both digital animation and cell animation.

For its 12th Anniversary, the animation studio even had a message for the fans. The message said that Science Saru completed its 12th Anniversary on February 4 (2025). It also read, “We hope you will continue to support us as we constantly pursue new possibilities in animation.” Fans can find the message on their official website or their social media page.
Toho Has Acquired The Rights To Science Saru
While Science Saru has somewhat maintained its individuality, it is no longer a separate entity. On June 19, 2024, Toho Co., Ltd acquired the rights to Science Saru after they announced that they would buy all of Science Saru’s shares. They have made Science Saru one of their subsidiaries. Toho has its animation studio, which has several successful ventures, but Science Saru’s combination of hand-drawn and digital animation is second to none.

Science Saru has several projects lined up, like Dandadan season 2. Fans are wishing the animation studio and hoping it to continue its successful run for 12 more years. They have an impressive CV and can make any other animation studio jealous, especially after winning multiple international awards in just 12 years.
