Chainsaw Man is considered to be one of the most popular manga of the modern generation, exploring the Shonen genre with a different perspective rather than following a linear plot. While Denji, the Chainsaw Man, remains at the center of most of the arcs, there is a group of the Devils who are feared by both humans and devils.
It is a group of four most powerful Devils and they are known as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The Four Horsemen are sisters and are the main cause of destruction and sorrow in human life. After much waiting, Tatsuki Fujimoto finally revealed the most feared of the Four Horsemen, the Death Devil, completing the group altogether. Here is the list containing information about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Chainsaw Man.
1. Control Devil
- Manga Debut (Makima) – Chapter 1
- Manga Debut (Nayuta) – Chapter 97
The Control Devil has had two births in the human world, with the first being Makima and the second being Nayuta. Makima was killed by Denji after the latter cooked and consumed her. As the name sounds, the Control Devil can control and manipulate the minds and bodies of those she considers to be inferior to her. Her powers also grant her the ability to alter memories and crush bodies from a distance. Both Makima and Nayuta took an interest in Denji, and while the former manipulated him more through his desires, the latter, being a kid, used her abilities on him only during certain events.
2. War Devil
- Manga Debut – Chapter 98
Yoru, the War Devil, possessed Asa Mitaka and was in search of the Chainsaw Man because she held a grudge against him. For ages, she had been one of the strongest Devils, but after the Chainsaw Man ate Devils that were a part of her, like the Gun Devil, Nuclear Weapons Devil, Tank Devil, and WWII Devil, she became considerably weaker. Each devil has an aspect, and when humans fear these aspects, the Devil’s power grows. In the case of Yoru, the absence of War and prevailing made people forget about her, making her weak. However, as the story progresses, Yoru has somewhat formed an alliance with Denji and decides to take on the Death Devil.
3. Death Devil
- Manga Debut – Chapter 198
The Death Devil is the strongest Devil out of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and also the eldest sister. While everyone was awaiting her arrival, the latest Chainsaw Man chapter revealed she was hiding amongst the humans using Fami’s (Famine Devil) name. It remains unclear what her true motives are but under the false identity, she was working towards stopping the prophecy of Nostradamus. During a certain time, she even tried to recruit Nayuta (Control Devil) and Yoru (War Devil) to accompany her. She was shown to have gotten rid of all of her organs to experience death, but could not, which keeps her real motive still hidden.
4. Famine Devil
- Manga Debut – Chapter 195
While Fami had been a part of Chainsaw Man for a long time, it was not the actual Famine Devil. Instead, it was the Death Devil that took her name as a disguise. The real Fami (Famine Devil) appeared a few chapters back and is shown to have a shy and anxious personality. Her motive is to save humanity from all their sufferings by providing them with death as a way of salvation. Chainsaw Man chapter 197 revealed that in a near-death state, Fami can take another living being’s life upon touch.
