The main visual for the original short anime “Garden of Remembrance,” directed by Naoko Yamada, has been released. This announcement was made at a panel event during “Anime Expo 2024” held in Los Angeles, USA, on July 5th.
Naoko Yamada’s Comment (Translated)
Where do thoughts and feelings go? Do they remain like air, or do they disappear completely? If possible, I want them to stay with me and not disappear for as long as I wish. I think “you” and “me” and “my childhood friend” are something to someone.

“Garden of Remembrance” is a heartwarming short animation that explores the fluctuating emotions of three peopleโ “you,” “me,” and a “childhood friend.” The film was produced by Science SARU, known for its work on the TV anime “The Tale of the Heike,” with character designs by Etsuko Mizusawa. The film won the Special Excellence Award and Audience Award at the Bucheon International Animation Film Festival held in October 2023 and was selected for the SITGES ANIMA’T & Encounters film festival in 2023. This highlights the significant impact the Garden of Remembrance anime 2023 has had in the festival circuit.

A young woman absentmindedly rises from bed and begins her morning routine. Your day begins. Slow to wake up and sluggish. I, represented by an emoticon observe you. I tease you as you strum the guitar and sip your drink. While strolling through town one day, “you” encounter a childhood friend buying “my” flower, the Anemone. Remembering my fondness for them, “you” hurry to purchase them yourself. Your childhood friend delicately showcases the Anemone.
Years after my passing, “you” hear a rustling noise, from the closet. Upon opening it “you” are greeted by a vision of “my” garden before your eyes. A flood of emotions washes over both of us. As “you” leave the room filled with memories, a painting of the Anemone that “you” created adorns your space.
