It has been more than a year since Netflix’s One Piece Live Action was released and became one of the leading titles in the specific genre. The first season completed with the Arlong Park arc and the Straw Hats finally setting sail for the Grand Line. For a long it was teased that Tony Tony Chopper would be making his debut in the upcoming season.

Netflix even released a teaser featuring Eiichiro Oda teasing the Straw Hat doctor with a little sketch. However, there was no news about it for months until Netflix finally decided to drop a teaser featuring Tony Tony Chopper’s first look in a live-action avatar on June 1, 2025. Since the reveal, the internet has been going wild by going for a comparison between the anime version and the live-action version from the start.

Detective Pikachu-Ish Approach Did The Job For Netflix’s One Piece Live Action

As soon as live-action Tony Tony Chopper’s first look was revealed, the One Piece fans worldwide let out a sigh of relief. They were skeptical of how the live-action version of the reindeer would look. They were mostly hovering between CGI and a child artist playing the role. As soon as the teaser dropped, it was clear that the first one was correct. On top of everything, Netflix took a Detective Pikachu approach with the looks, the colors, and the CGI.

The details were fine, with almost every hair strand on the character visible, and they were moving along with Chopper’s movements. The attire is exactly taken from the anime, and Mikaela Hoover’s voice is more than enough to convince the fans that they have something to look forward to. The animation is looking great, and they have emphasized maintaining Chopper’s cuteness, which is a plus point. Also, the most crucial part is adding a blue touch to his nose and his iconic pose, making the character almost perfect.

However, there could still be some improvements, especially with the character’s teeth. While the anime featured Chopper showcasing his teeth, it was mainly when he was portraying some kind of emotion or shouting at the top of his voice. The daily conversations did not showcase his teeth much, but the teaser featured him showing his teeth during every word he spoke. There is still time for some improvements, and the quality of work done here highlights that it could be better in the future.

Fans React To Live Action Tony Tony Chopper

Live-action Tony Tony Chopper has been a long time coming, and likewise, the fans were excited about it. After watching the first look, they showered Netflix with love because they did a great job with the character. They handled the character in a sophisticated manner, knowing that the slightest mistake could make the fans dislike it. With Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Season 2 scheduled to release in 2026, fans now have something to look forward to. They have been posting and commenting all over the internet, celebrating Tony Tony Chopper. Here are a few comments from the One Piece Subreddit thread.

@BanjoSpaceMan wrote, “He looks better than I could have ever expected tbh.”

@Amiibohunter000 said, “2026? Damn I was really hoping for this year. They’re gonna age too fast at this rate lol. Chopper looks awesome! Can’t wait!”

@DargoKillmar commented, “Cute but just the right amount of creepy so people would think he’s a monster. This is pretty much exactly what I pictured to be honest.”

@kusayo21 said, “I’m just happy they didn’t put a child in a costume tbh. Was really afraid of how Chopper will look like, but this is perfectly fine.”

While most people were satisfied with live action Chopper, there were some who felt the CGI could have been better. The adorable character lost his chubbiness, his feet was narrowed down, and his eyes are too small.

@alexacassaro wrote, “This live action disappoints me more and more. He’s gross.”

@DeshoneSmartt said, “Why they got Chopper on Ozempic?”

@Cellafex commented, “They made him slim to safe money on CGI, duh.”

Everything looks great for Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Season 2, especially after Tony Tony Chopper has been revealed. The upcoming season will feature the Drum Island arc since it is where the cute reindeer doctor is currently residing. Fans are happy with the initial approach, and with still a year to go, the final output might be even better. While some people remain unhappy, it could change in the future with the improvements. Also, they are eagerly waiting to see the cast interact with the CGI character. For that, they might have to wait a little longer until Netflix drops an official trailer featuring everything.
