The Manga Taisho Award is among the most prestigious awards in the Japanese manga culture. Started in 2008, it serves the purpose of identifying the upcoming talented manga artists. Out of 238 titles, 10 manga titles were selected, with less than or equal to eight manga volumes released in 2024.
Previously, several big names like Chainsaw Man(2020), Attack on Titan(2011), One Punch Man(2014), etc., were nominated for this award. 2025 marks the 18th year of the Manga Taisho Award. The titles nominated for this year are:
1. Alice, Dokomademo
- Story & Art – Kiko Urino

Alice, even in Space (Alice, Dokomademo in Japanese) follows the story of Arisu Asahida as she aims to become the first female astronaut commander in Japan. Even though she is good-looking and popular in high school, she struggles with language and ends up taking help from another person, Inuboshi, to overcome her problems.

2. Onna no Sono no Hoshi

- Genre – Comedy, Slice of Life
Onna no Sono no Hoshi (The Star of Girls’ Garden), revolves around a Japanese language teacher, Hoshi, who teaches at an all-girls school. He is involved in various activities like spending time with his co-workers, working as an adviser to his students, and taking care of the class pet, leading to a series of hilarious comic moments.

3. COSMOS

- Genre – Sci-fi, Action
COSMOS follows a high school girl named Kaede Mizumori, who is a clairvoyant and can read peopleโs thoughts. However, to keep her abilities hidden, she avoids getting into trouble. One day she meets a mysterious girl, Rin Homura, and a chain of uncanny events starts to unfold.

4. Kono Yo wa Tatakau Kachi ga Aru

Kono Yo wa Tatakau Kachi ga Aru (This World is Worth Fighting For) is about a girl named Kiri Ito, who has a problematic life. Her boyfriend and co-workers harass her, she is not proud of her job, and nothing is going right in her life. However, she believes that she needs to be useful to others. It is the only thing that keeps her motivated. After suffering for long, she decides to change her way of life and live for revenge.

5. Re-Living My Life with a Boyfriend Who Doesnโt Remember Me
- Story – Eiko Mutsuhana, Art – Gin Shirakawa
- Character Design – Yugiri Aika

- Genre – Fantasy, Mystery, Romance
Re-Living My Life with a Boyfriend Who Doesnโt Remember Me is a romantic and fantasy drama revolving around Oriana. After she falls in love with Vincent at the Magic Academy, they later die under mysterious circumstances. However, when she woke up, she found herself in her seven-year-old body with the memories of the past intact. She again enrolls in the Magic Academy, only to find Vincent has forgotten about her. Now, it is up to Oriana to win back Vincentโs love again.

6. Magus of the Library
- Story & Art – Izumi Mitsu
- Magazine โ Good! Afternoon
- Genre – Fantasy
Magus of the Library is about Theo Fumis, a resident of the desert slum. Even though his conditions do not permit education, he is quite fond of books. He dreams of going to the place where no disparity exists: Aftzaak, City of Books. One day, Theo meets a librarian from Aftzaak and his life changes forever.

7. I Love Eating a Lot! Mochizuki-san

- Genre – Comedy, Slice of Life
As the manga name suggests, I Love Eating a Lot! Mochizuki-san revolves around gluttony. The protagonist, Mochizuki Mikoto, works as a sales officer. After a hard dayโs work, she prefers to be submerged in a pile of delicious food. It is her guilty pleasure to devour several dishes at once. However, it causes her blood sugar level to spike.

8. When the Dokudami Flowers Bloom
- Story & Art – Shiho Kido
- Magazine โ Monthly Afternoon
- Genre – Drama
When the Dokudami Flowers Bloom is a seinen human drama about two studentsโ unusual friendship. Shigarakiโs behavioral issues often make him the outcast of his class. On the other hand, Kiyomizu is an honor student. After the latter observes the formerโs art and craft, it mesmerizes him. Finally, it leads Kiyomizu to start following Shigaraki.

9. Girl Meets Rock!
- Story – Kuwahali, Art – Tetsuo Ideuchi
- Magazine โ Shonen Jump+
- Genre – Comedy, Drama
Girl Meets Rock! follows Chihiro Hatono, who joins the light music club after buying an electric guitar. However, she soon broke up with her band partner, Rin Koyama, since they were not very good with musical instruments. One day, Rin heard Chihiro singing and decided to form another band with her as a singer. Since then, their journey as a band began with them recruiting more members in the future.

10. Robล no Fujii
- Story & Art – Kurao Nabe
- Magazine โ Big Comic Spirits
- Genre – Slice of Life
Fuji is a middle-aged office worker but maintains a low profile. He comes to the office, works, and silently leaves. He avoids unnecessary talking with his colleagues. Most people do not want to end up like him. But suddenly, he becomes the center of everyoneโs curiosity. Everyone wants to know his whereabouts and how he spends his free time.

The winner of the Manga Taisho Award 2025 will be announced on March 27, 2025, during the awards ceremony.
