After 26 years, One Piece will finally change its production schedule and shift from a weekly release. While the Egghead arc has kept the One Piece fandom on the edge of their seats, the latest news from the official site has stirred up the fans. Several questions are being raised surrounding the situation, as it was announced all of a sudden.

However, there are specific reasons behind such a decision. The announcement has been sudden, but the last few weeks gave a hint that something like this could happen. Especially since the anime has been taking a break almost every alternate week. All the details surrounding One Pieceโ€™s latest announcement have been revealed, along with some pretty exciting news.

One Piece Anime Will No Longer Release Weekly

As per the official site of One Piece, it has been announced that the anime will no longer follow a weekly episode release format. To better explore the essence of the One Piece world and present a more focused telling of the story, the One Piece TV anime is adopting a new production approach, adapting one manga chapter into one anime episode. The series will air up to 26 episodes in 2026. The anime will be on a hiatus for the first three months of 2026 and will return in April 2026.

Toei Animationโ€™s decision to shift the One Piece anime to 26 episodes a year is a strategic move aimed at enhancing its animation quality, better pacing, and production schedule management.

Elbaf Arc Announced In One Piece

The Egghead arc is ongoing and scheduled to conclude by the end of 2025. According to the announcement, the Elbaf arc will start from April 2026. While the tentative release date has not been revealed, it is believed that the anime will premiere in the first week. Also, the character designs for the Straw Hat Pirates during the Elbaf arc have been released. It will be years after that that fans will get to experience the Giants again, that too in their territory.

Fans React to One Pieceโ€™s 2026 Hiatus and Bold New Format

Amidst all these, Toei Animation concluded the latest announcement. They mentioned it will give a chance to those who are lagging behind to catch up with the anime. They revealed that more exciting surprises are on the way, which will be placed during the seriesโ€™ break.

As mentioned before, the One Piece fandom is currently divided into two groups โ€“ disappointed and happy. Each group of fans has its theories, and here are a few fan reactions from the X(Twitter).
