The Ghost in the Shell is one of the most popular cyberpunk series ever created. It was created by Masamune Shirow in 1989 and, since then, has been adapted into multiple entertainment formats. Starting with the 1995 anime, the series has been adapted into a popular Hollywood film starring Scarlett Johansson and into multiple video games. It is an evergreen cyberpunk series following the life of Major Kusanagi, who is a cyborg.
On May 25, 2024, an announcement revealed that the series will be adapted into a TV anime, with Science SARU handling its animation production. Kodansha, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and Production I.G. will also be a part of the TV anime. The anime was scheduled to release in 2026, without a tentative release date. However, it changed on October 23, 2025. An announcement on the official website confirmed the release window of the anime.
The Ghost in the Shell Coming in Winter 2026
According to the official announcement, The Ghost in the Shell TV anime is scheduled to release in January 2026. The anime will broadcast at 11 P.M. every Tuesday at the Karnival!! anime slot. Kansai TV and Fuji TV will broadcast the show nationwide. While no further information has been revealed about the exact release date, fans have narrowed it down to certain dates. Based on the broadcast day and time, Ghost in the Shell might likely premiere on the 6th or 13th. It could also be on the 20th or 27th of January. However, everything will be cleared up with further information regarding the series.

The Ghost in the Shell 2026 Synopsis
In the fictional city of Niihama, Japan, Public Security Section 9 prevents any criminal activities from taking place. They ensure that peace is maintained. Makoto Kusanagi is a strong-willed major of the organization. She takes up a case involving a mysterious hacker called the โPuppet Master.โ The signatory move of the โPuppet Masterโ is to strip individuals of their memories. With a bizarre case on her hands, Major Makoto Kusagani has to deal with multiple psychological questions as she gets further involved in the investigation.
