The second season of the TV anime “Shangri-La Frontier,” based on the popular manga serialized in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” (Kodansha), will premiere on October 13th. It will be broadcast on the MBS/TBS Sunday 5 pm anime slot “Nichi 5.” The new visual features all clan members, including Sunraku, Arthur Pencilgon, Oikatzo, Emul, Psyger-0, Psyger-100, Kyoju, and Animalia, who did not appear together in the first season. The teaser PV has also been released on YouTube, with the tagline “God game restarts!” (translated) showing Sunraku and the others heading into a new area.
Season 1 of the anime ran for 25 episodes from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
Is Shangri-La Frontier a real game?
Rakurou Hizutome, a high school student, is interested in playing poorly designed games – ones that are unbalanced or riddled with bugs making them almost unplayable (Trash games). Those who share his hobby may know him by his in-game alias, Sunraku. In his gaming venture, Rakurou is advised to try out Shangri-La Frontier, a well-received virtual reality game that serves as a refreshing break from the subpar games he has been exploring lately.
Upon launching the game, Rakurou opts to sell most of his equipment, for currency retaining only a pair of boxers, a bird mask, and some weaponry. Engrossed in leveling up his character, he quickly becomes engrossed in the gameplay… When faced with monsters, he realizes he may have underestimated the challenges a mainstream game poses. As Rakurou advances through the game levels, he must utilize all the skills honed from his gaming escapades. Soon, Sunraku’s unorthodox approach to gaming begins to stir up excitement in Shangri-La Frontier.
